Afeela: A new electric vehicle brand from Sony and Honda is on the rise

The EV brand, which will be branded ‘Afeela’, was described on stage by Sony Honda Mobility chief executive Yasuhide Mizuno, who claimed it reflected “a new interaction between people and mobility”.

The Afeela prototype, a four-door fastback saloon, has yet to be named, but Sony Honda Mobility has confirmed that it will be available for pre-order in the first half of 2025, with sales beginning at the end of that year. North American deliveries are scheduled for April 2026.

The vehicle is 4895mm long, 1900mm wide, and 1460mm height, which is comparable to the Hyundai Ioniq 6, and it has double-wishbone suspension in the front and multi-link suspension in the back.

Sony Honda Mobility claims that “the simple ornamental lines and form” are inspired by spacecraft, and that “the circular motif encompasses technology, which conjures a sensation of a new mobility experience and reflects an embracing feel of a new ideal mobility.”

Inside, there’s enough for five people to relax beneath a big panoramic canopy in a “cocoon-like ambiance,” with digital panels on the back of each seat and across the dashboard. The steering yoke, which is most likely operating a’steer-by-wire’ electronic rack, has both touchpads and buttons.

The production vehicle, according to Sony Honda Mobility, will employ Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis technology, which offers drivers with clever artificial intelligence systems, greater personalization, and other intuitive technologies.

According to the company, the vehicle can handle up to 800 trillion operations per second and is equipped with 45 cameras and sensors that fuel its level three autonomous driving systems, which are presently in development.

It will also leverage augmented reality and cloud data, as well as collaborate with game creator Epic Games on “seamlessly combining real and virtual worlds, and exploring new entertainment possibilities through digital breakthroughs such as the metaverse,” according to Sony Honda Mobility.
