Dailyhunt turns unicorn after parent VerSe raised $100M funding
Vernacular content platform Dailyhunt has become the latest startup to enter the unicorn club after parent VerSe Innovation, raised more than $100 million at a valuation of over $1 billion.
The funding round was led by AlphaWave, Google, and Microsoft, along with existing investors Sofina Group and Lupa Systems. The company had also raised $134.5 million before this round.
Started in 2010 by Virendra Gupta, Bengaluru-based Dailyhunt provides news and other content in 14 languages. The company sources content from over 100,000 content partners and content creators.
"It was for the first time that a unicorn in tech for local languages has been established," the company said.
With the fresh funding, the company would boost its short video platform Josh, and also scale up its local content offering, innovating its technology.
"Josh will play a key role in the Digital Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives," the company said.
Josh hosts around 77 million monthly active users, 36 million daily active users and over 1.5 billion video plays per day, as per VerSe.
