Startup Funding

Masai School has raised $5 million in a Series A funding round, led by Omidyar Network India. The round has seen the participation from Unitus Ventures, India Quotient and AngelList India. This year, in August, the company had raised $2.5 mn as a part of its Pre-Series A round from the same investors.

Nrupul Dev, Yogesh and Pratik Shukla started building Masai School back in 2019. Masai school aims to equip students with the latest technologies, required to get a good job. The company also want to support underprivileged students from a poor background. The students accepted in Masai school get training and mentoring in Android applications development and full-stack web. Masai school is partnered with many MNCs and corporate businesses like Samsung, Sharechat, Urban Company, Instamojo and other companies to get jobs in these companies.

With the recent fundings, Masai school want to introduce more programs and strengthen the existing services. They want to hire more experienced faculty and create a grooming structure for a large number of students. They have an idea to offer a scholarship to a few students based on merit which will include an allowance of 15K.

Prateek Shukla, co-founder and CEO of Masai School, said, “Year after year, India produces lakhs of graduates of which a very small percentage are actually employable. On the other hand, the ever growing industry struggles to find relevant entry level talent. Which clearly implies that the root of the problem lies in the existing education system.”

Masai school is going to launch many free of cost educational programs for underprivileged students so they will have the same opportunity and platform as other students.

“The funding will primarily be used to expand our curriculum and contribute to the transitioning of our business model from being a coding centric to a career focused institute” Shukla added.

Everyday technology is changing and hence the skills that are required to get a job in IT are changing too. India always has the chance to dominate the supply of skilled employees to the whole world, but the sad reality is that many unskilled graduates are coming out of the colleges. The company’s goal is to close the skill gap among tech aspirer when it comes to the latest technologies. Masai school want to do more for the students who are talented and hard-working but are not getting opportunities because of their financial conditions. Helping youngsters to land the job of their dreams and equipping them with the skills they will require to make a good career in the industry.

Masai School plans to tap on the post lockdown scenario of companies looking to hire talent from countries like India. The lockdown has let many youths upskill themselves as they look forward to their careers post the situation.
