Bengaluru based e-sports and fantasy gaming platform, Mobile Premier League (MPL) acquired the esports gaming platform GamingMonk. The amount at which the deal has been finalised has not been disclosed yet. The acquisition shall help the gaming platform to bring to market key national, regional, and global tournament IPs.
The acquisition is also expected to accentuate MPL’s broadcasting capabilities and add up a host of Esports with it, with the help of Delhi based GamingMonk’s established record of leading online and offline eSports tournaments. MPL will include the entire GamingMonk team as a part of the deal.
“GamingMonk’s vision was to change the Esports scenario in India,” said Ashwin Haryani, Co-Founder, GamingMonk. “I strongly believe that our collaboration with MPL will not only help us accomplish our goal, but also transform the way every individual in our country views esports.” GamingMonk is a platform that hosts Esports tournaments and contributes to creating an integrated consort of Esports. As of April 2021, GamingMonk had a registered user base of over 1.3 million users.

MPL recently has launched Esports Arena, under which the gaming platform will conduct esports tournaments fortnightly for games like WCC, chess etc. these games are also streamed on various social media platforms which witness massive viewership. The number of live stream views has crossed 5 million, with over 70,000 participants registering for the tournaments. Chess grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi, along with famous gamers and streamers such as Jonathan Gaming, Gaming Guru, Soul Regaltos, and others were a part of these tournaments. Each of these tournaments carries a cash prize worth Rs. 10 lacs and the entry is free.
With the launch of the Esports Arena, MPL contributes to making Esports widespread and also accessible for anyone with a smartphone.
Founded in September 2018 by Sai Srinivas Kiran Garimella and Shubham Malhotra, MPL has become Asia’s biggest eSports and mobile gaming platform, with over 70 million users in India. The gaming platform currently employs over 600 personnel with offices in Bengaluru, Pune, Jakarta, and Singapore.
