Haqdarshak, a rural India-focused social tech startup, has launched a vernacular focused WhatsApp-based chatbot in Hindi and English. With the help of this chatbot, Haqdarshak is determined to give easy information access to COVID-19 vaccines, relief schemes for people and MSMEs, health insurance, and the settlement of claims.
In a previous couple of years, India has seen an increase in smartphone usage amidst small business owners, migrants, daily wage earners, the urban poor and rural citizens. Although, as per the 2017 World Bank study, just 40% of Indians can apply for the government services and goods they require.
Moreover, access to data relating to the pandemic and schemes regarding it has seen multiple gaps as even those with access to sophisticated social media channels are still not included. With WhatsApp’s reach of 390 million in India alone, the Haqdarshak chatbot is going to serve as the first step towards solving this information imbalance.
In the next few months, the chatbot is going to support new languages. To access the chatbot, one can send a message to +91 93073 05995.
Further, users also are redirected to Haqdarshak’s multilingual support helpline for vaccine registrations and scheme applications. Right now, the helpline support is available in Marathi, Hindi, and Kannada.
According to Founder and CEO Aniket Doegar, the team is looking to reach out to 1 crore families in the year 2022 via the chatbot and helpline service.
“Haqdarshak is going to be partnering with private organisations and government departments entrusted with the responsibility of the most vulnerable communities. Simply put, our product and tech team is focusing on developing ‘tech for good’ products.” he further added.
Launched in 2016, Haqdarshak uses technology to make sure that citizens at the last mile get access to government and private welfare, schemes, and services. This is done via a mobile and web-SaaS platform for company partners, besides a coaching platform utilised by community women entrepreneurs.
In the last 5 years, with a field presence in twenty-two Indian states, Haqdarshak has reached out to over 1 million families and supported more than 7,00,000 beneficiaries with welfare schemes, bringing in INR 500 crores worth of benefits. Also, the Haqdarshak tech platform has helped digitise 7,000 welfare schemes.
Just 2 months ago, the startup closed its Pre-Series A round at INR 6.65 crores in March 2021. At that time, Haqdarshak said they are going to use the raised funds to launch and expand ‘vaccination plus health insurance’ coverage-focused services at the last mile with a digital push, and also invest in plug-and-play tech tools.
