Microsoft to lay-off 5% of workforce around this week

According to a recent report from Bloomberg, Microsoft has taken a tough decision in the beginning of this year. They are looking to cut their workforce by 5%. Also, the cutting would impact the engineering divisions of the organization.

This is the second time Microsoft has taken such a decision in the current financial year. Just 4 months back, the management of Microsoft went through “Structural Changes” and laid off people as a part of the change. As per reports, nearly 1000 people lost their jobs because of changes the company initiated.

In a statement, Microsoft mentioned “Like all companies, we evaluate our business priorities on

a regular basis, and make structural adjustments accordingly. We will continue to invest in our business and hire in key growth areas in the year ahead”.

Microsoft was not the first company to reduce its workforce in recent times. Similar companies like Meta (Facebook’s Parent Company), Amazon, and a few others also laid off more than 10000 people.

In a recent interview with CNBC, Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella mentioned that “We did have a lot of acceleration during the pandemic, and there’s some amount of normalization of that demand. And on top of it, there is a real recession in some parts of the world”.

As of now, there’s no official announcement from the company regarding this lay-off. But we can expect the announcement along with Q-3 results of the company.
