At a time when sustainability has become a crucial issue for companies worldwide, 75% of Spanish companies have established sustainability objectives related to their information technology (IT) infrastructure, and almost 9 out of 10 CIOs (89%) consider commitment to technological sustainability essential. These data come from the Barometer 2024 Ynvolve, a recent study of some 300 IT professionals in Spain.
According to the Sustainable Development Consultation 2024 carried out by the UN Global Compact Spain and published this past August, 7 out of 10 Spanish companies already have a sustainability strategy or planand 84% of companies see sustainability as a competitive advantage. These data underscore the importance of moving towards greater environmental responsibility and reinforce the findings of the Barometer 2024 Ynvolve.
The company Ynvolve, specialized in circular IT solutions with more than 15 years of experience in the sector, has promoted this study with the aim of highlighting the importance of companies being increasingly aware of and respectful of the environment. In fact, the report concludes that only 6% of Spanish companies do not prioritize caring for the environment. This growing awareness is driving many organizations to adopt more responsible practices in their daily operations.
Implementation of sustainable practices
The report by Ynvolve highlights that 27% of companies have not only set sustainable goals for their technological infrastructure, but have also begun to actively implement them. This significant progress towards integrating sustainability demonstrates a real commitment by Spanish companies to reduce their environmental impact.

Martin Niessen, CEO and founder of Ynvolvecomments that “the challenge for Spanish companies is to find a balance between technological innovation and sustainability. Environmental responsibility is no longer an option, it is an imperative to ensure a prosperous future. By adopting sustainable practices, companies not only protect the environment, but also optimize their resources and improve their competitiveness in the market.”
The circular economy in the IT sector
Ynvolve is a pioneer in promoting the circular economy in the IT sector, facilitating the use of refurbished hardware and extending the life cycle of equipment. These practices not only reduce costs, but also contribute to the reduction of electronic waste and the saving of natural resources. According to a report by the United Nations Global Compact in Spain, a circular production and consumption model could unlock global GDP growth of more than €4 trillion by 2030.
Although there is still a long way to go, Collective awareness of the circular economy is increasing. More and more companies are opting for sustainable solutions when managing their technological infrastructure. This trend reflects a positive shift towards greater environmental responsibility in the IT sector.
“Companies are beginning to see the economic and operational benefits of opting for refurbished equipment, not only in terms of cost reduction, but also in improving flexibility and resource availability,” he adds. Martijn Niessen. “Beyond being a regulatory requirement and a social commitment, sustainability is now an economic criterion, a market positioning strategy and a key to success.”
