Apple recently dropped a real bomb on the entire PC industry. Cheap MacBook is an invention straight from the nightmares of laptop manufacturers. However, the head of ASUS sees this as an opportunity.

Apple’s biggest problem in recent years has been the barrier to entry. The giant from Cupertino has created an ecosystem in which it is difficult to simply dip your toe. There you have to immediately jump into deep water. And, as we know, this can be expensive. And this is where the all-white MacBook Neo comes in. Quite an unusual laptop, because it has the insides of an iPhone, but with a price (PLN 2,999) much lower than previous Apple devices. For people who don’t edit 4K videos every day, this may be a sensible alternative.

ASUS CEO on the shocking impact of the MacBook Neo

During the financial conference for the fourth quarter of 2025, ASUS CFO Nick Wu directly admitted that such a cheap MacBook was a “shock” to the market. However, the point is not that Apple will suddenly take control of the personal computer segment. On the contrary. According to Wu, the industry is taking Apple’s move seriously but is also preparing a response.

The talks will involve not only laptop manufacturers, but also key technological partners of the entire PC ecosystem. We are talking about companies such as Microsoft, Intel and AMD. They are to play an important role in creating competitive designs that will be able to compete with the new MacBook in a similar price range.

It is worth noting that a cheap MacBook does not mean that Apple will suddenly dominate the computer market. Data from the analytical company Gartner show a completely different picture. In 2025, global PC sales were approximately 270 million units. Lenovo remains the largest player with a share of over 27 percent. It is followed by HP and Dell. Apple, with a result of around 9 percent, still lags significantly behind the leaders.
