We haven’t yet had time to get used to the quality presented by Unreal Engine 5, and here the big announcement has already arrived.

Unreal Engine is basically synonymous with high-quality gaming offerings and the foundation of modern AAA publishing houses. Only four years ago, the fifth version of the engine had its official premiere, and we already knew then that we would never look at older games the same way. Surprisingly, although we haven’t had time to enjoy its possibilities yet, even greater sensations have just been revealed and in surprising cooperation.

Unreal Engine 6 revealed! And in the process, a long-time wish was fulfilled

In a surprising twist, for a nice start to the week, all players received a gift – an announcement of a new graphic era of their favorite hobby. Everything happened in a rather unobvious way, not during a big presentation, but only a short teaser, which surprised many people twice as it fulfilled a long-standing wish of fans and put an end to speculations.

Unreal Engine 6 was officially revealed and announced at the implementation level with a short teaser of the popular multiplayer game Rocket League. It is a dizzyingly dynamic entertainment in which cars bounce the ball into the opponent’s goals in a large arena.

I guess that explains why this particular medium was used for the big reveal of the new engine version. For several dozen seconds, we have the opportunity to see UE6 in the glory of the realistically presented bodies of rushing vehicles in the glow of spotlights from the stands. Each blade of grass shimmers realistically, as during a Champions League broadcast, heralding new graphic experiences.

Fans of the series are certainly delighted. The title has been limited for years by the Unreal Engine 3 version, which is already 22 years old at this stage and 11 years since the last significant update. Those interested have already been looking for a larger update since 2020, betting on the update to UE5, probably not dreaming that the reality may turn out to be even more generous.

A new era has been announced, but we will have to wait a while

Great power also, unfortunately, means even more tests. So, although work is already underway, this unfortunately does not mean a full release next month. You will probably have to wait at least until next year for the new features to come into force, and maybe even until 2028 (in the case of the previous version, two years passed from presentation to availability).

Especially since at the moment, Epic Games (behind the modern powerhouse Forint, and are also the authors of the EU) did not share much information with us about the progress of work. The conversations are limited to picking out single sentences from conversations held by the creators and the head of Epic on social media.

Unfortunately, there are no specifics regarding optimization, shader compilation, or CPU performance. Based on the current problems related to graphics cards and memory, gamers will certainly also be interested in whether there is anything to be excited about at all, because what will be the use of Unreal 6’s capabilities if their computers will be outdated from a requirements perspective on the day of release?

For now, the most important clue to the future capabilities of the new engine is a post on X (formerly Twitter) written by Epic CEO Tim Sweeney. In it, he revealed that future titles will be able to be managed in an equally complex way as they currently do with Fortnite, which is probably the best example of effectively running a product as a service. Currently, it is more than just a game, it is even a multimedia entertainment platform.

It would also tie in elegantly with the nature of Rocket League and its announcement of a new era. The only question is: is this the new era that players want?
