In Spain, the adoption of AI is advancing at high speed, and not only among large corporations, but also in SMEs that are beginning to integrate Generative Artificial Intelligence tools and intelligent agents into their daily operations. The objective is clear, improve efficiency, reduce costs and free up time for human teams to concentrate on higher value tasks.
Artificial intelligence, a reality in business processes
According to a global study carried out by SAP, artificial intelligence is already firmly installed in the business fabric. According to the results, almost half of Spanish organizations use this technology in strategic areas. Specifically, 46% apply it in the creation of commercial content, 45.8% use it as a source of market information and 45.3% use it for fraud detection. Its use is also expanding in budgeting, management reporting, and software development.
But beyond the numbers, what stands out is the structural change that this adoption is driving. Companies are redesigning their internal processes to take advantage of the capabilities of AI, especially in areas such as billing, human resources or marketing. More than six in ten companies have already transformed their workflows related to payments and finances, while more than half have done so in personnel management.
AI agents gain prominence in business management
One of the most striking findings of the study is the rapid integration of AI agents, the most recent evolution of this technology. These systems, capable of interacting autonomously with employees and clients, are already an active part of business reality in Spain. Almost 70% of companies use them in the daily management of their business.

The report distinguishes various levels of adoption. 28% of companies experiment with pilot projects, 27% apply them in specific departments and 14% have extended them to the entire organization. Only 1.5% declare that they have not yet considered its use. This trend confirms that AI agents are ceasing to be a technological curiosity and are becoming established as a strategic tool.
“Companies are discovering that AI agents not only automate tasks, but also bring a new layer of intelligence to decision-making,” the study highlights. “Its ability to process large volumes of information and generate accurate recommendations is changing the way teams work and communicate.”
Profitability and quick return on investment
The deployment of AI solutions is not only a question of innovation, but also of profitability. According to the SAP study, 72% of Spanish companies expect to obtain a positive return on investment in less than 12 months. This data reflects a high level of confidence in the tangible contribution of technology to the business, a key aspect in times of economic uncertainty.
Organizations highlight significant improvements in operational efficiency, but also in employee satisfaction. More than half of companies say that automating repetitive tasks has reduced administrative burden, which has increased team motivation and productivity. Additionally, almost half have seen an increase in internal collaboration, while 38% highlight a positive impact on work-life balance.
The challenges, between ethics and data quality
Despite the benefits, the implementation of artificial intelligence continues to pose significant challenges. One in three Spanish managers acknowledges their concern about the possibility of making decisions based on incorrect information generated by AI systems. Other risks mentioned include lack of control over data privacy, opacity of algorithms, and difficulty attracting and retaining qualified talent.
These fears reflect the need to move towards a more transparent, ethical and responsible use of technology. Experts agree that data quality and human oversight will continue to be determining factors in ensuring that AI acts as a reliable ally in decision-making.
