Anker has announced a recall program for its power bank series. Using products from a faulty batch may be dangerous!
A few weeks ago I wrote about an application that informs users about products withdrawn from Polish stores. It is inconspicuous and extremely effective in its operation, because store messages about withdrawn products are easy to miss. Today, however, I am not talking about food products, but about power banks from the popular company Anker. One of the models has a manufacturing defect, which is why there is a risk that the power bank will catch fire.
Anker is recalling its power bank. Check if you have this model!
The power bank in question is the Power Bank 321 (model number: A1112). A small device with two ports, which due to faulty lithium-ion batteries can be a huge threat. The company informs in an official statement:
It has been discovered that some lithium-ion batteries used in our A1112 Anker 321 (PowerCore 5K, Black) power banks may pose a fire hazard due to a manufacturing defect. The lithium-ion battery in the affected power banks may overheat, potentially causing melted plastic components, smoke, and a fire hazard.
While this issue may only affect a small number of batteries (batch used in products after March 2023), out of an abundance of caution we are contacting all customers by initiating a recall.
If you have the aforementioned power bank model, you can enter the serial number of the device on the manufacturer’s official website to check whether your specific model poses a threat. If it turns out that it does, Anker will guide you step by step on how to proceed with the device. However, if you have come across one of the dangerous models: secure it as soon as possible and use the returns program, and above all: do not use it!
