Cloudera buys Octopai to manage metadata

ByAlex Chen November 15, 2024

As data and its management become increasingly important in business environments, Cloudera has just reached an agreement with Octopai to acquire its data platform. With this purchase, in addition to increasing its portfolio of metadata management solutions, Cloudera aims to help its customers obtain greater value from their information and improve their governance.

It is increasingly a priority for companies to make their decisions based on relevant data that they own. At the same time, this information is the basis of AI, machine learning or predictive analysis projects, which requires a comprehensive strategy that helps locate, contextualize and prioritize the information they have. However, for many companies, particularly in highly regulated sectors such as finance, healthcare or telecommunications, having a complete view of all their data remains a major challenge as they need to manage large amounts in hybrid environments.

Octopai has transformed metadata management through automated mapping and graph generation

“With the advent of hybrid data architectures, organizations need to automatically manage metadata to get a complete view of their information,” explains Sanjeev Mohan, analyst at SanjMo. “Augmenting Cloudera’s data management, governance and artificial intelligence capabilities with Octopai’s multi-layered data lineage and 50+ data source connectors has created a comprehensive solution to today’s metadata challenge.”

Founded in 2016, Octopai has transformed the management of this type of data, through automated mapping and graph generation, offering useful and relevant information to get the most out of metadata. Its intuitive experience and AI assistants have enabled its clients to obtain quality information in analytics and Artificial Intelligence developments, saving time and operational costs while complying with constantly changing regulations.

Octopai’s automated solutions for data lineage, mapping and impact analysis in complex data environments complement Cloudera’s strategy and its commitment to modern architectures. With Octopai’s integrated metadata management and data lineage, Cloudera customers will have numerous solutions to improve their AI development, predictive analytics, and other decision-making tools based on trusted data. Specifically, improvements are introduced in:

  • Data detection and localization: allows you to quickly find relevant data in complex systems, whether cloud, local or hybrid, as well as to know its origin and reliability. This visibility into source and history ensures that decisions are based on accurate and reliable data.
  • Data quality– Provides complete visibility of the data journey from its origin to its current location. This contributes to obtaining reliable data that helps improve decision making in the company.
  • Data governance: By automatically mapping and cataloging data from all systems, with detailed information about their flows, it helps compliance with regulations such as GDPR, CCPA and HIPAA.
  • Migration Assistance: Through data lineage and utilization of Octomize AI’s genAI agent, teams can prevent risks, reduce errors, and ensure migrated data remains accurate and consistent when moved to a new environment.

“When using first-party data to make critical business decisions, companies cannot afford blind spots or inaccurate answers,” said Charles Sansbury, CEO of Cloudera. “The acquisition of the Octopai platform enhances our data, analytics and AI platform, allowing customers to have greater visibility into their information regardless of their management provider.”

“Cloudera and Octopai are a perfect combination because they unify centralized data and metadata management,” highlights Yael Ben Arie, CEO of Octopai. “By combining Octopai’s metadata capabilities with Cloudera’s platform, we are responding to the challenge of managing and governing data across multi-cloud and on-premise environments.”
