The German multinational, which celebrated its centenary in 2025, has established itself as one of the main world leaders in inspection, certification and testing, an activity that is essential to guarantee the correct functioning of an increasingly regulated and technologically complex economy. In Spain, the company is also experiencing one of the moments of greatest expansion in its recent history, driven by the growth of strategic areas such as ITV, cybersecurity and the energy transition.
With a presence in more than 60 countries and nearly 49,000 employees around the world, DEKRA considers the Spanish market as one of the most relevant within its international structure. Spain is already part of the Top 10 most influential countries in the group and occupies second position in the South West Europe, Middle East and Africa region, only behind France.
“Spain is one of the most dynamic European markets for DEKRA and occupies a relevant position within the group, both due to its current weight and its development potential,” says Alberto Da Silva, country manager of the company in Spain. The manager highlights that the company is gaining prominence within the corporation and reinforcing its presence in areas that will shape the future of the global economy.
DEKRA’s strategy for the next decade is structured around three main pillars: Mobility, Digital Trust and Sustainability. A roadmap designed to respond to three of the main megatrends that are transforming society: the energy transition, digitalization driven by artificial intelligence and the growing weight of regulation.
“Security is not an added value, but an essential element for the functioning of the modern economy,” the company maintains. An especially relevant approach in a context marked by geopolitical tensions, climate challenges and the growing technological dependence of companies and citizens.
Sustained growth and new investments
The results obtained during 2025 reflect the solidity of this strategy. DEKRA Spain closed the year with a normalized sales figure of 90 million euros and an EBIT of 14 million, maintaining a profitability of more than 15%. The company also surpassed the barrier of 1,000 employees and reinforced its commitment to growth with investments of more than five million euros during the past year. Added to this is the approval of more than 14 million additional euros for 2026, raising the joint investment for both years to above 19 million.
“2025 has been an exercise in reinforcing DEKRA’s growth strategy in Spain, with important investments made and others planned for this year,” explains Laura Luque, financial director in Spain. According to the directive, the combination of growth, financial discipline and investment allows us to face the coming years with optimism and move towards the objective of exceeding 140 million euros in income by 2030.
The company also plans to complement this organic growth with corporate operations that accelerate its expansion, especially in those markets and activities where it identifies a high development potential.
ITV: one of the great drivers of the business
One of the areas that best reflects this evolution is the ITV business. Although DEKRA is today a diversified organization, vehicle technical inspection continues to be one of its historical activities and one of the main drivers of growth in Spain.
During 2025, this area registered an increase of 30% compared to the previous year and reached a market share of more than 8% in the Community of Madrid. The company currently operates eight stations in the region and is preparing the opening of a new facility in Alcobendas.
The growth also extends to other autonomous communities. In Extremadura, DEKRA has obtained a 25-year concession to operate several stations and deploy new services, while in the Canary Islands it maintains five projects in different stages of processing.
“Over the last year we have continued to strengthen ITV activity with a roadmap focused on growing in network, capillarity, territorial presence and local service,” says Josu Otin, director of DEKRA’s ITV area in Spain.
DEKRA has been one of the first accredited bodies to evaluate artificial intelligence biometric systems in accordance with the European AI Act
The company plans to triple the current number of stations before 2030 through a combination of new openings, participation in public tenders and possible acquisitions, thus strengthening a network that it considers key to increasing its territorial capillarity.
Digital trust gains prominence
If ITV represents DEKRA’s historical legacy, digital trust symbolizes its commitment to the future. It is also the area that registered the most intense growth during 2025, with an advance of 56% and a turnover of close to seven million euros.
The rise of connected devices, the expansion of cloud services and the emergence of artificial intelligence have generated new certification and evaluation needs. Dekra has found in this scenario an opportunity to position itself as one of the leading international actors.
“Digital trust is not certified in pieces: a connected device, the application that runs on it, the cloud that supports it and the artificial intelligence model that decides behind it form a single chain,” explains Alejandro Torrecilla, general director of DEKRA in Malaga.
The company has already certified more than 450 devices under the RED-DA regulatory framework, has been among the world leaders in FIPS 140-3 cryptographic module certifications and has participated in projects related to global technology manufacturers.
Furthermore, DEKRA has been one of the first accredited bodies to evaluate artificial intelligence biometric systems in accordance with the European AI Act, anticipating a regulation that will mark the technological development of the coming years.
Sustainability and energy transition
The third major strategic pillar is sustainability. The organization works to help companies, investors, administrations and infrastructure developers to face the energy transition with guarantees.
Its activity ranges from the certification of green hydrogen, biomethane or alternative fuels to the verification of Energy Savings Certificates (CAE), including projects related to wind energy, energy storage or battery gigafactories.
“One of the pillars of DEKRA’s 2030+ strategy is sustainability, with special relevance to the energy transition,” says MarĂa Cabrelles, director of Advisory & Training at DEKRA in Spain.
The company also develops services linked to the carbon footprint, energy efficiency, sustainable mobility plans and business decarbonization processes. A comprehensive approach that has allowed it to position itself among the highest-rated organizations in terms of sustainability and become a reference partner of EcoVadis.
With this combination of territorial expansion, technological growth and commitment to sustainability, DEKRA seeks to consolidate its position as a trusted global partner for an increasingly connected, regulated and demanding economy. An objective that keeps the company’s essence intact: helping people, companies and infrastructure operate more safely.
