This fall, DJI’s electric mountain bike will hit the market. It’s distinguished by its proprietary drive system and… a high price.
DJI is a brand associated with high-quality drones, action cameras, and gimbals, but now the company has decided to make a surprising turn towards ground-based electric vehicles. The Chinese manufacturer clearly wants to compete with giants such as Specialized, because DJI’s new product is an electric mountain bike with a proprietary drive system.
A performance bike packed with technology
Bikes are like smartphones – you can buy a model for a few hundred złoty, used for basic activities, but if you want to feel real quality, you have to expect a much larger expense. Prices for premium bikes can reach tens of thousands of złoty, and it is precisely this category that DJI wants to break into.
Amflow PL is an electric mountain bike made mainly of carbon fiber, whose biggest advantage is a lot of intelligent functions. It is equipped with a quiet engine with a nominal power of 250W and a peak power of 850W and a removable battery with a capacity of 800Wh – this one from 0 to 75% charges in just one and a half hours.
Weighing 19.2 kg, the Amflow PL has a two-inch color OLED display with a touch screen, integrated with the frame and a dedicated app. Using the app, you can unlock the bike and track all the necessary statistics and data. It is also useful in the event of a theft or failure – the bike will first sound an alarm and then send a notification about its location.
When it comes to ride convenience, it’s worth mentioning the four pedal assist modes – the manufacturer highlights the automatic mode that adjusts power depending on resistance while riding. In addition, there’s also a place for a USB port for charging a phone.
Avinox’s Drone-Inspired Propulsion System
DJI boasts a new Avinox drive system, thanks to which the bike can achieve a torque of 120Nm, making it easier to overcome steep slopes.
“Our knowledge of battery and motor technology from drones and camera stabilization systems led us to create Avinox. Expanding DJI’s business into this area is a natural next step, as we have mastered the technologies essential to an electric bike system, including reliable motor development, battery management, mechanical design, and engineering.” – Christina Zhang, Senior Director of Corporate Strategy at DJI
The Chinese manufacturer is also increasingly entering the automotive market. In the Middle Kingdom, you can already find some car models that use intelligent solutions from DJI, and recently the first power stations for electric cars have also appeared on the market.
Returning to Amflow PL – the electric mountain bike is to go on sale in the fourth quarter of this year, but before you optimistically plan your purchase, first look at the expected price. According to initial reports, Amflow PL is to cost from 7,000 to 12,000 euros, which means that in the most expensive configuration, this model will be priced at over PLN 50,000. Although in the premium electric bike segment, this may not be the most expensive proposition, the price will still be prohibitive for the average user.
Amflow PL is initially set to launch this fall in Germany, the UK and Australia – there is currently no information on availability in Poland.
