Your laptop is unloading too fast? Check out practical ways to extend the battery life. Some are trivial, others a bit surprising, but they are all worth testing!

How to extend the laptop working time on the battery?

Everyone knows the moment when the laptop battery melts in our eyes and we don’t have a charger on hand. Ending started tasks is then a fight against time. Such situations teach humility, but there are ways to gain a few extra minutes. In this article, we will show you how to realistically extend the laptop working time on the battery. No magic, but with specific tips that you can implement immediately. Some of them are a classic, others may surprise you.

1. Reduce screen brightness – sounds trivial, but it works

The display is one of the largest energy eaters in a laptop. The brightness set 100% ensures adequate comfort of work, but in crisis situations this is not the most important thing. In the room, 30-50%is enough, and in many cases you can go down even lower. This is the easiest way to gain additional minutes – or hours – without a charger. And yes, maybe it will not be supercomfort for a moment, but you will get used quickly.

2. Close the background programs

We often open several cards in the browser, leave the graphic programs, messengers and multimedia players open. Each of these processes eats resources and energy. Even if you don’t use them actively, the system must support them. Before disconnecting from the power supply, check what you need and close everything that is unnecessary.

3. Energy saving mode – do not ignore it

In Windows and MacOS you will find built -in energy saving modes. This is not a placebo – the system realistically lowers the processor’s clock speed, extinguishes the screen, turns off some services. The laptop may slow down and can work much longer. When traveling or at meetings where you don’t render the movie in 4K, it’s an option that can save you day.

4. Disconnect what is unnecessary

USB mouse? External disk? Card reader? All this consumes electricity. If you really care about the battery life, disconnect all peripherals. Even a pendrive can affect if it is connected for a long time. If you do not use Bluetooth communications, it is also worth turning it off. The situation with Wi-Fi is similar if you work offline. You can recover a lot of energy in this way.

5. Take care of order in the system

Unnecessary processes starting with the system, forgotten applications operating in the background, outdated drivers – all this can affect energy consumption. It is worth looking at the autostart from time to time, uninstalling unused programs and do for a long time awaiting updates. System optimization is not only accelerating operation – it is also less power consumption.

6. Go to light applications

If your laptop dies after two hours of writing in Word, maybe it’s time to switch to something lighter? Browser text editors, minimalist offline notebooks or alternatives for heavy browsers can significantly relieve the equipment. Instead of Chrome – try Brave or Vivaldi. Instead of a graphic combine – a simple image editor. It is not about giving up convenience, but about reasonable choices.

7. Set the sleeping and screenshot

The laptop left on the desk can shine for hours if you do not have well -set sleep options. It is worth ensuring that the screen extends after 2-3 minutes of inactivity, and the whole system falls asleep after 10. It is especially important if you work from a thrush-you write an email, you make coffee, come back. Let the equipment not wait for you in full combat readiness. Thanks to this, the battery can work longer.

8. Change the Power Plan and CPU management

You can do a lot in advanced system settings. Change the power plan to “economical”, limit the maximum processor power, set the dedicated energy management profile. The laptop does not have to be a sprint champion then, but at least it will not fall after two episodes of the series. On YouTube and forums you will find ready profiles if you do not want to rummage in the settings yourself.

9. Think updates and synchronization

Automatic updates, clouds, backups – all this has its real use, but not necessarily when traveling or when working on batteries. If you go by train through half of Poland, OneDrive, Dropbox and Windows Update can wait. Many of these functions can be temporarily turned off or switched to manual mode. Your laptop will thank you for that.

10. Take care of the battery itself

And finally – the battery is also equipment that requires care. Avoid frequent unloading to zero, do not leave your laptop permanently connected to the power supply. Battery calibration can help you read the charge of the charge more accurately. In some models you can set a charging limit of up to 80% – this extends its service life. Avoid extreme temperatures. The laptop working in a preheated car is not the best idea.
