Watchguard Technologies has announced its adhesion to The Climate Pledgea global initiative that drives carbon neutrality in companies before 2040. With this decision, the company intensifies its commitment to sustainability and assumes an active role in the fight against climate change.
The commitment to The Climate Plenge is not simply symbolic. It implies the adoption of concrete and measurable measures to drastically reduce the environmental impact of its operations. As Prakash Panjwani, CEO of Watchguard, has declared “as a company dedicated to protection against digital threats, we also feel the responsibility of contributing to protecting the planet from a global threat such as climate change.” Panjwani stressed the importance of joint action: “No person or entity can solve this alone. But if we act together, we can guarantee a more sustainable and safe future for the next generations.”
The Watchguard roadmap towards decarbonization contemplates the reduction of emissions at the three levels established by international standards: scope 1 (direct emissions), scope 2 (indirect emissions for energy consumption) and scope 3 (emissions throughout the value chain). In this sense, the company is reviewing its operations and processes, from the supply chain to the displacements of its employees, to minimize its ecological footprint.

A future without emissions
The strategy includes close collaboration with logistics suppliers, manufacturers and cloud services, with the aim that their practices are also aligned with sustainability criteria. Likewise, the company is reconfiguring its work spaces to make them more efficient from the energy point of view and encourage remote work, which significantly reduces the need for transfers.
Jay Lindenauer, head of Network Security in Watchguard and one of the promoters of the project within the organization, highlighted the active role that the private sector must assume. “Acting according to the regulations is not enough. We operate in more than twenty countries and we witness the real impact of climate change in communities around the world. That is why we decided to intensify our efforts, not only for business responsibility, but by personal conviction,” he said.
Watchguard will also implement mechanisms for measurement and periodic notification of its greenhouse gas emissions, as established by The Climate Pledge. To this is added the adoption of renewable energy sources, the redesign of products with recyclable materials and the requirement of environmental standards such as ISO 14064 certification to its manufacturers.
The Climate Pledge
The Climate Pledge, promoted in 2019 by Amazon and the Optimism Global Organization, has managed to bring together hundreds of companies from various sectors that share the common objective of achieving carbon neutrality ten years before the goal set by the Paris Agreement. The signatories not only undertake to reduce emissions, but also to compensate for those that cannot be eliminated, through projects with tangible and durable benefits for the communities.
With this adhesion, Watchguard strengthens its positioning as a technologically advanced company, but also committed to the well -being of the planet. The company considers that this integral vision of sustainability will be a key competitive advantage in the future, both for its clients and its employees and partners.
“Being part of this initiative allows us to add forces with other leading organizations that also understand that sustainability is an imperative. Together, we can make a difference,” Panjwani concluded.
