In his firm commitment to sustainability and decarbonization, Iberostar Hotels & Resorts has taken a new step by allying with the Sener engineering and technology group to develop Braian, an innovative solution based on artificial intelligence. This system will optimize energy consumption in its hotel establishments, contributing to reach the carbon neutrality goal in 2030, twenty years before the objective set by the industry.

Braian (acronym inspired by “Brain” and artificial intelligence) has been designed to improve the energy performance of hotels by optimizing their air conditioning systems, main energy consumer in this sector. Iberostar’s goal with this technology is to achieve 35% savings in energy consumption and reduce in 85% scope emissions 1 and 2 by 2030, without compromising the comfort of guests.

From Iberostar, the positive impact of this innovation on its decarbonization strategy stand out. “This project reflects our commitment to innovation, sustainability and to provide our clients with an excellent experience,” says Álvaro Sánchez López, global director of sustainability, integration and impact of Iberostar. «We have a solid roadmap for the decarbonization of our operations and Braian contributes on this path. We value in a very positive way the support it offers to our maintenance staff ».

For his part, Guillem Peris, director of the Breath Project, highlights the relevance of Iberostar’s commitment to technology: «Iberostar has adopted an ambitious goal to reduce its emissions and move towards a more sustainable model, betting on technology and data to achieve it. We are glad that you have trusted our capabilities in AI for it. Braian is the concretion of Iberostar’s commitment to new technologies to bring their hotels to the highest level of efficiency, improving customer experience ».

Artificial intelligence at the service of efficiency

Braian centralizes and analyzes energy data from various internal and external sources, integrating them into a unique platform to optimize the operation of air conditioning systems. Among the variables considered are the information of the hotel control system (BMS), the occupation in a given period (PMS) and the weather forecast.

Thanks to this advanced analysis, the system is capable of providing the influx of guests in different spaces of the hotel and adjusting air conditioning based on this information. This allows to reduce energy waste while maintaining adequate thermal comfort for customers.

In addition, Braian acts as a virtual operator that complements the work of hotels maintenance equipment, facilitating technical management and improving operational efficiency.

Implementation in Iberostar Hotels

The Braian system is already operational in three hotels in the chain: Iberostar Waves Royal Andalus (Cádiz), Iberostar Waves Alcudia Park and Iberostar Selection Playa de Palma (Mallorca). By 2025, its deployment is expected in five other establishments, including the Iberostar Selection Cancun (Mexico), which will soon start using this technology.

The solution is based on breathing, a technology developed by Sener that has already demonstrated its effectiveness in the optimization of infrastructure such as Manises airport in Valencia and the Barcelona Metro, where the efficiency of air conditioning systems has significantly improved.
