In enterprise environments and large networks, wireless connectivity is typically implemented using Wi-Fi access points installed on ceilings and walls, which connect to network switches. However, many of these switches only have Gigabit ports, which limits the performance of Wi-Fi 6 and 7 access points, capable of offering speeds greater than 2,400 Mbps in the 5 GHz band.
To solve this problem, D-Link has launched its new series of Multi-Gigabit smart switches, the DMS-1250, with 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet LAN connectivity for Wi-Fi 6, 6E and 7 networks, multiple Power Over Ethernet options and advanced layer 2 management and layer 3 static routing functions.
Furthermore, the novelty that stands out is that it can be managed both locally and remotely through D-Link’s Nuclias Connect ecosystem, allowing unified administration of Wi-Fi access points and other manageable switches.
DMS-1250 Series Features for Enterprise Wi-Fi 6 and 7 Networks
The D-Link DMS-1250 series represents an advanced and versatile solution to improve the connectivity and management of enterprise networks. Designed to meet the demands of Wi-Fi 6, 6E and 7 networks, this range of Multi-Gigabit smart switches offers a combination of performance, flexibility and security. Key features that make the DMS-1250 series an ideal choice for enterprise environments and large networks are:
- 1. Multi-Gigabit Ports: The DMS-1250 series is equipped with 8 Multi-Gigabit ports supporting speeds of 10/100/1000/2.5GBASE-T. This means that each port can automatically adapt to the necessary connection speed, providing exceptional flexibility and performance for various network applications.
- 2. Power Over Ethernet (PoE): These switches offer advanced Power Over Ethernet (PoE) options, supporting 802.3af/at standards. On the DMS-1250-10SP, DMS-1250-12TP and DMS-1250-10SPL models, each port can supply up to 30W of power, with a total PoE budget of up to 240W. This allows devices such as Wi-Fi access points, IP cameras and VoIP phones to be powered directly over the Ethernet cable, simplifying installation and reducing the need for additional cables.
- 3. SFP+ and 10G copper ports: For high-speed connections, the series includes two SFP+ ports that enable 10 Gigabit uplink links, ideal for connecting to the upper network layer, whether for aggregation or connection to the core of the network. Additionally, the DMS-1250-12TP model features two 10G copper ports, providing even more high-speed connectivity options.
- 4. Advanced Layer 2 Features: These switches are equipped with a variety of advanced Layer 2 features, including VLANs, asymmetric VLANs, Spanning Tree (MSTP), and link aggregation. These features enable efficient network segmentation, redundancy and load balancing, improving network resiliency and performance.
This is the new DMS-1250 range, designed to provide Wi-Fi 6, 6E and 7 networks with 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet LAN connectivity
- 5. Layer 3 static routing: The DMS-1250 series also supports Layer 3 static routing, allowing switches to route network traffic efficiently between different subnets. This is crucial for larger, more complex networks that require advanced traffic management.
- 6. Robust Security: Security is a priority, and these switches are no exception. They include access control lists (ACLs), the D-Link SafeGuard engine, port security, DHCP server filtering, and DHCP spoofing detection. These features help protect the network against unauthorized access and malicious attacks.
- 7. Unified management: The DMS-1250 series can be managed in a unified way together with D-Link Wi-Fi access points and other manageable switches using the free Nuclias Connect software. This software offers a single sign-on web portal and multi-site capability, facilitating centralized network management
- 8. Management options: The switches can be managed through various methods, including console port, CLI, web interface or SNMP, using D-Link D-View 8 NMS software. This provides flexibility in network management and monitoring.
- 9. Limited Lifetime Warranty: D-Link offers a limited lifetime warranty on these switches as long as the product is registered. This ensures that customers can rely on the long-term durability and support of their devices.
- 10. Smart fans: Models with PoE are equipped with smart fans that adjust their speed based on the device temperature, ensuring efficient and quiet operation
- 11. Surge Protection: The DMS-1250 series includes 6kV surge protection, which protects the switches against potential electrical surges, especially when connecting devices such as access points or outdoor IP cameras
