22% of industrial companies in Spain experience network problems two or three times a month, while only 8% of respondents face these problems once a year. This is highlighted in the Kaspersky report, “Managing geographically distributed companies: challenges and solutions.”
Such industrial companies typically operate with distributed infrastructure across multiple locations, such as factories, offices, and other critical facilities. This dispersion can generate logistical problems, communication barriers, difficulties coordinating operations, maintaining uniform quality standards and complying with local regulations.
When it comes to IT infrastructure and information security, companies with multiple locations face specific challenges. In addition to the aforementioned problems, Spanish industrial companies with multiple locations often have IT infrastructure and information security problems.
“Network problems in industrial companies often result in delays, a decrease in production levels, financial losses and reputational risks. When the network goes down, communications and business processes are disrupted, employees lose access to crucial information, and all of this leads to a drop in productivity and even erodes customer trust,” said Maxim Kaminsky, manager of business development (Secure Access Service Edge) at Kaspersky.
Spanish industrial companies and network problems
According to the Kaspersky report, 50% of manufacturing companies consider detecting and resolving cybersecurity incidents to be the most difficult task. Also notable are the creation and implementation of processes for seamless teamwork across multiple sites (41%) and the cost of hiring qualified IT staff and the introduction of new customer services at more than one site (34%).
22% of Spanish industrial companies face network problems regularly
In Spain, 34% of respondents report network problems related to their organization’s multi-site structure, such as network failures or interruptions, poor performance of services and applications, and insufficient connection capacity. 22% face these challenges one to three times a month, 20% every two months, and 10% at least once a week.
Regarding the time necessary to restore the network after an interruption, almost half of Spanish respondents (47%) say that it does not take more than an hour to restore the network. However, 30% need between 2 and 5 hours. These downtimes can cause significant financial and reputational damage, costing thousands of dollars per minute or more per hour. Therefore, it is crucial that companies prevent potential network outages and are able to repair them quickly if they occur.
Kaspersky Recommendations
To minimize network problems and build comprehensive protection for all assets and processes in industrial companies, Kaspersky recommends:
- Use OT XDR platforms such as Kaspersky Industrial CyberSecurity (KICS)which offers centralized asset and risk management, security and compliance auditing, and scalability, providing reliable protection to industrial networks and automation systems. The recent update enables support for 100 monitoring points and offers unlimited options to build new software-defined networks between company branches.
- If your company needs a separate solution to manage the corporate network from a single device, use a specialized solution such as Kaspersky SD-WAN. This product integrates communication channels and network functions across the enterprise, improves application performance, makes it easier to build reliable networks, and maintain geographically distributed businesses.
- For advanced protection, you can combine both solutions. The integration of Kaspersky SD-WAN and Kaspersky Industrial CyberSecurity for Networks allows companies to transfer a copy of industrial network traffic to establish a centralized monitoring and protection system. The synergy of these products makes distributed infrastructures scalable, providing high-quality network service and prioritizing ICS/SCADA traffic.
