ING implements RCS (Rich Communication Services) technology to reinforce the security, traceability and authenticity of its communications. This RCS technology becomes a new security tool that adds to the set of measures promoted by the company, aimed at guaranteeing the digital well-being of its customers.
Greater security measures
ING Spain and Portugal have begun to use a new verified messaging technology to communicate with their customers, replacing traditional SMS. The adoption of RCS technology, for its acronym in English (Rich Communication Services), allows you to protect the communication channel, ensure the traceability of messages and guarantee that the sender is really the bank, thus reducing the risk of fraud due to identity theft. Thanks to RCS technology, ING reinforces trust in its digital communications.
Through RCS technology, messages sent by ING are shown associated with a verified corporate profile. In this way, customers can clearly verify that the communication really comes from the bank, interact with ING through a more secure channel and reduce the risk of phishing, spam or fraudulent links, one of the main benefits of RCS technology.
What is phishing?
It should be remembered that phishing is an attempt at identity theft: cybercriminals pose as a well-known and reputable company, institution or service to deceive and steal customers’ private data, access credentials or banking information. This fraudulent practice is based on social engineering, that is, its success is based on the trust that users place in the company or institution that is being impersonated. Therefore, many of these fraudulent communications use the identity of financial or banking services, a risk that RCS technology helps mitigate.
Implementing RCS technology does not require customers to download additional applications or modify the settings of their devices. The user experience remains simple and transparent, incorporating an additional layer of security in regular communications thanks to RCS technology.
Other deployed tools
The adoption of verified messaging using RCS technology is part of ING’s commitment to digital well-being and adds to other tools already available, such as SOS Fraud, which allows passwords, cards and accesses to be immediately blocked in the event of a possible scam, or Who is calling me?, the service that helps confirm if a call really comes from the bank.

In addition, the ING entity has a website in which it makes available to any user, whether client or not, useful advice for raising awareness and preventing the different types of fraud that any digital user may face, thus reinforcing its security strategy together with RCS technology.
