Epson has introduced a free interactive CO2e emissions calculator for projectors, with which the company’s users will be able to measure the total environmental impact of their devices throughout the entire life cycle.

The calculator provides a detailed assessment of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, including those of the product, its packaging and additional items such as manuals and accessories, measured in CO2e at each phase of a projector’s life cycle. This tool covers 30 European countries, including Central and Eastern Europe, and adjusts calculations according to the types of electricity generation specific to each country.

“By offering this tool, Epson demonstrates its commitment to transparency and empowering people who use Epson projectors to make more informed decisions that align with their sustainability goals. The launch of our interactive CO2e emissions calculation tool is an important milestone, a pioneer in the sector, on our path towards sustainability,” highlights Boris Manev, Director of Corporate Sustainability at Epson Europe.

The development of this calculator is in line with Epson’s Environmental Vision 2050, which promotes responsible manufacturing. The tool draws on a wide range of data sources, allowing users to assess the environmental impact of using their projectors in a detailed and transparent manner. According to Manev, “tools like this calculator are essential to driving change in the electronics industry.”

Detailed data by phases CO2e calculator

The calculator includes data from all phases of a projector’s life cycle:

  • Materials: Emissions associated with the materials used in Epson projectors.
  • Production: With 72% of projectors made in the Philippines and 28% in China, the calculator offers transparency on differences in emissions based on production location.
  • Logistics: Emissions linked to inbound and outbound shipments, calculated using internal data to provide accurate estimates based on transportation methods.
  • Use: Calculations based on typical usage patterns, allowing users to understand the impact of emissions during operation.
  • End of useful life: The calculator provides estimates based on a landfill scenario, recognizing that many Epson products are collected for recycling and energy recovery.

TCO Generation 9.0 Certification

Many of Epson’s new projectors are TCO Generation 9.0 certified, the latest update to this sustainability certification. Thus ensuring that the projectors meet strict environmental and social responsibility criteria throughout their life cycle, emphasizing critical areas such as environmental impact, social responsibility and the principles of the circular economy.
