The official start of the PIT settlement season is coming soon – see how to do it quickly and conveniently without leaving home.

February is mainly associated with Valentine’s Day, but for all Polish taxpayers it is also important for a completely different reason. PIT settlements for 2025 start in the middle of the month. As every year, we remind you that it is not only a civic duty, but also an opportunity to receive funds from a tax refund. Fortunately, in the era of widespread digitalization, settling PIT for 2025 is very simple.

PIT settlement for 2025 – when can it be submitted?

PIT is submitted in order to settle your income with the tax office – to check how much tax you actually paid and whether the state will refund you the overpayment or ask for an additional payment. It is simply an annual balance of your finances towards the tax office.

Typically, the PIT settlement season begins in Poland February 15 every year. From this date, you can submit your tax returns for the previous year and we recommend doing it as soon as possible, because the more efficiently we prepare for this process, the sooner we can count on receiving a tax refund.

However, if for some reason you cannot settle your PIT in the first round, remember that The deadline for submitting your return is April 30. People who settle their taxes on February 15 have a good chance of receiving a tax refund in the same month. The tax office has a statutory period of 3 months to return the funds, but it usually takes about two/three weeks for people who settle their PIT on February 15.

How to settle PIT for 2025?

The classic form of settling PIT is a personal visit to the office and submitting paper documentation, but a much more convenient and faster method is to use the e-PIT system, which has already been used by millions of Poles.

“Your e-PIT” is a service available at the e-Tax Office that enables quick and convenient settlement of annual personal income tax online – we read on the website kontakt.gov.pl.

The advantage of this solution is that the tax administration prepares a pre-filled tax return based on the data it has, and the taxpayer’s role is only to check and accept it – or possibly correct it if the data is incorrect.

The service is addressed to natural persons settling income tax in Poland, taxpayers submitting PIT-37, PIT-38, PIT-36, PIT-36L and PIT-28 returns, taxpayers submitting the PIT-OP declaration and PIT-DZ information, natural persons obtaining income from business activities and special sectors of agricultural production, as well as persons benefiting from tax reliefs, filing their taxes independently or with their spouse.

Logging in to the e-Tax Office can be done via:

  • Trusted Profile,
  • mObywatel application,
  • electronic banking,
  • e-ID.

It is worth noting that the easiest option is to log in via mObywatela, which only requires scanning a QR code.

There is also an alternative option of taking no action. After April 30, the tax office will automatically recognize the PIT as settled, but this is a risky solution – at our own request, we take the risk of the consequences of failing to detect possible errors in the tax return.
