A Wrocław-based company creates an android straight from the HBO series. The project is still in its early stages, but it is already gaining recognition.

Humanoid robots are not only about Elon Musk and his Tesla Optimus. Advanced robotics projects are also being created in Poland and I would venture to say that they are even more intriguing than the work of the head of Tesla or other American giants. Androids straight from sci-fi movies are created, among others, in Wrocław, and more precisely in Clone Robotics – a company that wants to create superintelligent machines as close to humans as possible. The Torso project is an impressive achievement – it is still in its early stages, but it is already appreciated by the best.

Create a human-like robot

There is still little talk about Clone Robotics in the Polish media, although the company has been operating on the market since 2014. It was then that the founder Łukasz Kozlik began working on improving McKibben’s artificial muscles (pneumatic muscles with properties similar to biological skeletal muscles), and after a few years this led to the first large product, Clone Hand, a robotic hand closest to the human musculoskeletal system, with the same biological characteristics as your or my hand.

Clone Hand, however, was just a warm-up. The flagship work of the Wrocław-based company is Clone Torso, which is nothing else than a humanoid torso using the same musculoskeletal technology. It has a rigid spine, active elbow, movable neck and anthropomorphic arms with the following joints: sternoclavicular, acromioclavicular, scapulothoracic and glenohumeral.

The brain of this extremely advanced structure is Raspberry Pi, and the imitation of the heart’s work is possible thanks to an electro-hydraulic brushless pump with a power of 500 W. The frame itself is made of carbon fiber, ensuring a light and durable structure. Torso also uses a battery system located in the abdominal space.

A robot like from Westoworld – Internet users and industry specialists are delighted

There is little information on the Internet about the details of the Torso project, because firstly, the company’s website is still under construction, and secondly, the company itself is not particularly active in the media. However, if I have ever come across any mentions of Torso, they were comparisons to the androids from Westworld – the completed HBO series – and it’s hardly surprising, just look how fascinating it looks.

Internet users praise the slightly spooky appearance of the robot, and industry giants praise the level of advancement of the project. The Wrocław-based company was congratulated by, among others, Jim Fan – an outstanding specialist in humanoid robotics and a member of the NVIDIA team, dealing not only with the development of androids, but also artificial intelligence. Jim Fan also decided to refer to the HBO series, quoting Anthony Hopkins’ Dr. Ford – the creator of the android park in Westworld.

Very interesting progress, congratulations Clone Robotics! The great complexity of the system, but also the unsettling sense of beauty that comes with it – Jim Fan

The activities of Clone Robotics were also praised by Brett Adcock – the founder of Figure Robot, a company producing intelligent robots intended to support humans in sectors such as logistics and production. Torso – or rather a full-fledged humanoid robot that will be created from it – will probably be used in similar activities.
