Digitalisation is a permanent process in organisations. It is not just about implementing a particular solution, but it affects the company culture and covers a multitude of topics. Companies are betting on digitalisation not only to optimise processes or reduce costs, but fundamentally to adapt to new needs, legislation or to encourage growth and increase productivity. There have been countless projects in the last year. Let’s highlight some of them.
Best digitalization projects
Data Center Implementation
Banco Sabadell is one of the main banking groups in the Spanish financial system. The continuous improvement of its technological infrastructure is essential to continue offering its high levels of service. The deployment of an active-active data center environment in Madrid is part of this objective. In its implementation, it has had the participation of Omega Peripherals, its technological partner in various projects, which has a business unit that provides comprehensive engineering and operation services for data centers. Of particular relevance has been its contribution to the implementation of the cabling and the enclosed racks. In this, as in other projects undertaken, the support received by Carles Sánchez Brianzo, Principal Data Center of SabadellDigital-Banco Sabadell, and his team has been fundamental.
Specifically, Omega Peripherals has been responsible for integrating the CAC (Cold Aisle Containment) corridor enclosure system designed and developed by the leading manufacturer Soimer Telecomunicaciones. This solution offers a complete separation of the Hot/Cold zone to obtain maximum energy efficiency. It has automatic sliding doors with access control and ceilings that incorporate a complete automatic sliding opening, allowing the activation of the room’s extinguishing system. The creation of this cube significantly increases the cooling performance of the equipment.
Omega Peripherals has also been responsible for incorporating the structured cabling required to connect all the existing systems in the CPD, from servers and network equipment to power supply, cooling, security, access… To do this, a cabling solution has been deployed with the latest technologies, such as OM5, OS2, MPO12 and MPO24, supported by CommScope’s innovative offering. To automate, monitor and manage the infrastructure created, CommScope’s imVision AIM (Automated Infrastructure Management) system has been implemented. With it, it is possible to cover the 5Ms at the operational level in the Data Center: Modeling, Management, Monitoring, Maintenance and Measurement.
Migrating to the AWS Public Cloud
Correos decided to migrate its applications and environments from its traditional on-premise platforms to the AWS public cloud infrastructure. The aim was to improve scalability, agility, operational efficiency and simplify the management of its IT infrastructure. In this way, the company has managed to carry out an effective transition that, among other aspects, has allowed it to access a wide catalogue of cloud services that are allowing it to explore new technologies and innovative solutions. In this way, it achieves greater flexibility and better preparation to respond to market demands, positioning itself at the forefront of digital transformation, while generating a positive impact on sustainability and social action.
Digital Transformation of Customer Service
Naturgy has boosted its digital transformation by implementing various Salesforce solutions, which have benefited more than 4 million customers. These tools include Salesforce Service and Field Service to manage various services; Salesforce Marketing Cloud, which has helped consolidate customer interactions on a single platform, improving the communication strategy and sales; and Salesforce Energy & Utilities Cloud, a platform designed specifically for the energy sector that optimises contract management, billing and personalised services. In addition, Naturgy has connected its back office systems with the different Salesforce solutions thanks to MuleSoft, reducing integration times and accelerating digital transformation.
The company has integrated tools such as Salesforce Service and Field Service to manage various services such as boiler maintenance, optimizing operational efficiency and customer service. This multi-channel solution allows the energy company to improve response times and service quality.
Another tool implemented by Naturgy is Salesforce Marketing Cloud, which has helped it consolidate interactions with customers on a single platform, improving its communication strategy and sales. In addition, it uses Salesforce Energy & Utilities Cloud, a platform designed specifically for the energy sector that optimizes the management of contracts, billing and personalized services, allowing a holistic view of the customer and improving the decision-making process.
Finally, Naturgy has managed to efficiently connect its back office systems with the different Salesforce solutions thanks to MuleSoft, reducing integration times and accelerating digital transformation. This project, which benefits more than four million customers, simplifies the contracting and management of services, contributing to more sustainable energy consumption and an improved user experience.
Data management
The Tax Agency (AEAT) has deployed a Big Data platform, developing a modern data lakehouse architecture in which it has counted on Cloudera as a technological partner. Due to the growing volume of taxpayer data that the public entity has to work with, the agency needed its information management systems to be able to manage such amounts of data. They also needed to perform agile searches and develop data processing algorithms in an environment that reaches billions of records.
Using Cloudera’s platform, the organization has been able to index information from millions of documents, run complex algorithms, and create isolated and controlled data spaces. In total, more than forty dedicated processing nodes are operational and the platform hosts several hundred terabytes of information. In addition, they have achieved improved data governance and security management, to ensure continued compliance with national and European Union regulations.
Cybersecurity strategy
The Provincial Council of Guadalajara, together with Sophos, developed an innovative digital protection project. The Provincial Council is committed to cybersecurity and data protection, implementing advanced measures to safeguard the sensitive information of its citizens.
The project focuses on a comprehensive strategy that includes the implementation of cutting-edge technologies, such as artificial intelligence and predictive analytics, to detect and mitigate cyberthreats in real time. In addition, extensive staff training in good cybersecurity practices has been carried out, fostering a culture of security within the organization.
Collaboration with cybersecurity experts and the adoption of international standards have been key to the success of this initiative. The Provincial Council of Guadalajara has proven to be a benchmark in digital risk management, guaranteeing the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information.
Transformative Innovation Project
Sociedad de Tasación, an independent company that appraises all types of real estate, with more than 40 years of experience in the Spanish real estate sector, has transformed its architecture, methodology and culture, as well as its commitment to improving the user experience. This project will allow Sociedad de Tasación to face new challenges, with the aim of growing, differentiating itself and improving efficiency. To achieve this, Sociedad de Tasación has relied on the consulting service and the custom development methodology carried out by Kyocera.
Sustainability project
IBM is committed to sustainability in all its activities, from its operations to the design of its products and the use of its technology. Sustainability is a long-term strategic imperative for the company and one of the pillars of IBM’s ESG impact framework. This was once again evident in 2023 with the opening of its multi-zone cloud region in Madrid. The European leader Data4 supplied one of the data centers that make up this region, allowing it to meet, among others, the requirement of using 100% certified green energy and promoting the use of renewable energy. In this time, thanks to this partnership, there has been a 25% improvement in PUE (from 1.93 to 1.44) with only a 10% increase in IT load through close collaboration and close monitoring of airflow management and parameter optimization.
Specifically, IBM has focused on ensuring efficient airflow management, through the use of HAC (Hot Aisle Containment), which tends to offer greater energy efficiency and better thermal control, blanking panels and air blocking brushes in its IT data hall at the DATA4 Campus in Alcobendas.
