A new global study of the IBM Institute for Business Value, with the support of GSMA Intelligence, reveals that telecommunications and communications service providers (CSP) that make up the cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) in their networks obtain significant benefits, such as Better performance, scalability, cost savings and value generation.
The global report, entitled “reconfiguring the mentality of telecommunications: how CSP are obtaining network advantages with the cloud and AI”, highlights the importance of adopting a cloud -based approach and AI to offer a better performance of the Red and being at the forefront in a sector that evolves rapidly.
“Telecommunications companies that adopt a cloud -based model and artificial intelligence will be better equipped to face the new challenges of modern networks and take advantage of new opportunities,” says Rahul Kumar, Senior Partner & Vice President, Global Industry Leader for Telco & Media Industry in IBM. “When changing your mentality and adopting a culture of innovation, CSPs can obtain great benefits and stay at the forefront.”
AI and cloud in the CSP
The cultural transformation and the adoption of a proactive approach to innovation will be key to the future success of the CSP:
- Priorities of telecommunications executives. Among the key conclusions of the study, is that 84% of telecommunications executives surveyed in Spain (79% globally) prioritize the performance of the network above all, being the modernization of the network their second priority. At the global level, 62% of respondents who stand out as innovation pioneers are taking advantage of the traditional AI for network planning, exceeding 40% adoption among its competitors. Likewise, 54% of these leaders are integrating the generative AI in network planning, doubling the rate of their counterparts and demonstrating how preparation for the cloud can enhance agility and release resources on demand for advanced capacities.

- Network security. The study also reveals that 51% of respondents in Spain claim to have experienced a safety gap in its network in the last 12 months, while globally this data rises to 55%. Despite this, only 43% of executives in Spain (42% globally) consider that network security will be a challenge to take into account during the next three years.
- Future investments in technology. During the next three years, Spanish executives surveyed expect to increase Cloud investments for networks by almost 22%, the traditional AI in 16%and the generative AI in 17%. These figures reflect the growing importance of these technologies in the CSP strategy to stay competitive and offer high quality services.
- Cultural transformation and technology adoption. The study also highlights the importance of the CSP looking beyond the adoption of technology and transforming their culture to take advantage of new opportunities that generate economic value and remain competitive. This includes assuming risks strategically, promoting collaboration, learning from errors and promoting a proactive approach to innovation.
