OpenAI has just started testing a completely new tool. It’s called Operator and its purpose is… to relieve us of the tedious “clicking” through websites. What does this mean in practice?
Operator – a new tool from OpenAI will handle matters on websites for us
There are websites whose use is child’s play and uncomplicated, and there are also those whose use is a tedious and irritating process. Everyone who bought airline tickets online has experienced this and at every step had to remove additional services that were marked by default as something we wanted to buy. The operator will be able to “browse the website and interact with it: writing, clicking and scrolling,” the software developers say in the official blog post.
What do you need to know about it? The operator works based on “Computer Using Agent”, which combines the capabilities of GPT-4o with even more advanced algorithms that allow it to understand the context. This allows it to interact with and use graphical interfaces, taking over our controllers such as a keyboard or mouse/trackpad for this purpose. Thanks to this, he does not have to introduce any advanced, non-standard API integrations. And for now, he will be as independent as he manages to understand from the website. When he gets stuck — we will regain control and we will have to help him. The computer will also be handed over to us when the website asks for confidential data – including login details. You can see how it works in practice in the material below:
Currently, OpenAI has admitted to working closely with a large list of popular services to ensure that the Operator navigates their websites without any problems and “responds to real needs while respecting established standards.” These companies included, among others: DoorDash, OpenTable, Uber or StubHub. And although the lion’s share of them do not work in Poland, it is worth remembering that this is only the beginning and tests that are currently only valid in the United States. What’s more – only ChatGPT Pro subscribers will benefit from the software, which is priced at a staggering $200 per month. In the future, Operator will also be available to users of Plus, Team and Enterprise subscriptions – and will also be fully integrated with ChatemGPT.
