This Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 12:00, the ceremonial opening of the Museum of Games and Technology at 8 Fabryczna Street in Białystok will take place.
The museum is a joint initiative of the Podlaskie Retromaniaki Foundation and Channel o Technology. All visitors will have the opportunity not only to admire historic devices, but also to use them, which will allow them to travel to a bygone era. The idea to create it was born at the beginning of the year on the initiative of Robert Dzienisowicz, Marcin Kierzkowski, Dawid Kosiński and Marcin Połowianiuk, who founded the Podlaskie Retromaniaki Foundation. Dawid, Marcin and Łukasz Kotkowski from Kanał o Technologii also cooperate with them. The creators created a unique place that aroused great interest even before its opening – 300 people expressed their willingness to participate in the inauguration on Facebook, and almost 5,000 declared their interest in the event.
The Games and Technology Museum opens this week. What do we know about him?
We thank our partners for their trust. The contacts built over the years meant that we, as the Technology Channel, were able to take care of the museum’s financial affairs and obtain great sponsors for it. These are companies well known in the world of technology. Xiaomi is the runner-up in global smartphone sales, Nvidia is the largest graphics card manufacturer, and Turtle Beach is the world’s best-selling gaming headset brand. We are glad that so many global players supported our local Podlasie initiative.
– says Dawid Kosiński.
The museum will offer a wide range of devices, from computers and consoles to mobile phones, audiovisual equipment and home accessories. A room was also arranged in the style of the 1980s and 1990s, which will allow visitors to go back in time. The museum’s collection is constantly growing, mainly thanks to donors who donate unused or damaged equipment. Although the museum focuses on older devices, it will also feature modern technologies provided by project partners. Funding for the museum is provided by sponsors including Turtle Beach, Nvidia and Xiaomi, as well as Dreame, Optoma, Microsoft and Iiyama, which support the project technologically.
We also address our project to schools. We want to teach computer science, history or both together. After all, all we have here is a piece of history. In turn, organized groups of older people will appreciate the fact that they can play on the machines of their choice. It will bring tears to many people’s eyes, I’m sure.
– says Robert Dzienisowicz.
On the first day, admission to the museum will be free, and later symbolic fees will be introduced: PLN 20 for adults, PLN 18 for children and PLN 15 for organized groups. It is possible to hire a guide who will explain the history of the exhibits. On weekends, the museum will be open to everyone, while during the week it will be available to groups by appointment.
This is just the beginning. The museum’s creators have many plans
The museum’s creators plan to move its operations to a larger location, which will enable the organization of a wider range of social initiatives, including the continuation of classes for children with autism and war refugees that were held before the official opening.
We cannot pull out all the tricks up our sleeve at once. We know perfectly well that we need to constantly move forward. Those who stand still are actually going backwards. So we are also planning our next moves. We are talking to new partners, checking premises for a new location, and expanding the collection. Basically, growing collections are the reason for plans to change the premises. Of course, such a change requires significant financial outlays, so we encourage you to support our initiative.
– adds Marcin Połowianiuk.
On the opening day of the museum, you will be able to show your support by making a voluntary donation. People who pay at least PLN 33 will receive a mug with the museum’s logo, and for PLN 66 – a T-shirt. You can also receive both gadgets by paying PLN 99. The T-shirts will be ready for collection after about a week. In the case of shipping, please add PLN 15 and contact the organizers.
