Vertiv has introduced Vertiv Avocent MergePoint Unity 2, a next-generation KVM switch platform for secure, centralized IT management of IT devices in enterprise data center environments, distributed edge locations and remote offices. Designed to help operators simplify daily operations, respond to incidents faster, and maintain systems availability, this switch enables remote diagnostics, configuration, and recovery while protecting IT systems from unverified firmware and software.
“As organizations distribute workloads across multiple locations, the complexity of infrastructure management increases accordingly,” said Ramesh Menon, Vice President of IT Systems Solutions at Vertiv. “Vertiv Avocent MergePoint Unity 2 provides a centralized point of control with enterprise-grade security, helping IT management teams maintain visibility and responsiveness regardless of where their infrastructure is located.”
Advanced protection through authentication
The new KVM switch complies with FIPS 140-3 cryptographic standards, enabling secure, verified encryption for government and enterprise environments. It offers advanced protection through smart card and Common Access Card (CAC) authentication, as well as user permission controls, giving IT teams a consolidated view of the infrastructure without the need for multiple tools or on-site visits.
With its built-in Virtual Media capabilities, users can remotely deploy drives for software and application installation, streamlining upgrades and minimizing downtime. The IT management platform also enables remote access to the UEFI and BIOS firmware interfaces for critical system updates and hardware troubleshooting.
Greater operational efficiency
Additionally, both local and remote users benefit from an intuitive browser-based interface, while support for keyboard shortcuts enables fast navigation and agile task execution, improving efficiency and optimizing the user experience at the rack level.
KVM switch responds to incidents faster and allows remote diagnosis, configuration and recovery
The KVM features a compact design that, when combined with the Vertiv Avocent Local Rack Access (LRA) console, integrates into a single rack unit, optimizing rack space. IT management can be managed through an integrated web interface for standalone applications or integrated with the Vertiv Avocent MP1000 management platform as part of the Vertiv Avocent DSView solution for enterprise-level centralized control.
