The WiZink digital bank, specialized in consumer financing and savings, reinforces its leadership in digital banking with the migration of its central technological infrastructure (mainframe) to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud, within the framework of a strategic collaboration between both companies. This milestone marks a significant advance in WiZink’s digital transformation strategy and reinforces its positioning as an entity specialized in digital, simple and competitive savings solutions in Spain and Portugal.

The mainframe migration carried out responds to WiZink’s need to evolve its technological platform towards a more flexible, efficient and future-ready model, relying on the infrastructure of AWS, a leading global company, with proven experience in the financial sector and the ability to accompany large-scale transformation projects.

A seamless migration for more than 2 million customers

The approach adopted has allowed WiZink to move its operations to the cloud while preserving all its business logic, without the need to rewrite its applications and minimizing any operational risk associated with the bank’s critical infrastructure. The result has been a fluid transition, without interruptions in service and completely transparent for its more than 2 million customers.

The benefits have been immediate and tangible. WiZink has managed to reduce its infrastructure costs between 30% and 40%, in addition to freeing up technological resources previously dedicated to infrastructure management, which are now used for innovation and improving the customer experience. The ability to launch new environments on this new infrastructure has been reduced to less than an hour, which represents an improvement in time-to-market of up to 75% and allows the bank to respond more quickly to market needs. In addition, the new platform offers flexible scaling capacity that automatically adapts to demand peaks, and reinforced operational resilience thanks to a more modern and automated infrastructure.

Lower carbon footprint

WiZink has decided to migrate its mainframe to the AWS infrastructure in Spain, located in Aragon, ensuring data residency in the country and even lower latency for its clients in the Iberian Peninsula. Likewise, it allows the bank to operate with a significantly lower carbon footprint thanks to the fact that the AWS technological infrastructure in Spain offsets its electricity consumption with 100% carbon-free energy since its opening in 2022. This sustainable infrastructure is aligned with the entity’s efficiency and environmental responsibility objectives.

This project has opened new possibilities for talent and innovation within WiZink. The adoption of modern development tools on a more open and flexible infrastructure has significantly expanded the base of professionals who can contribute to the bank’s technological development, while facilitating regulatory compliance thanks to complete traceability of all changes made to the platform.

“The mainframe migration marks the starting point of a long-term strategic relationship between WiZink and AWS and represents a decisive step in our evolution as a digital bank. This change has allowed us to gain efficiency, agility and resilience, while laying the foundations to continue innovating and offering the best experience to our clients, guaranteeing at all times the continuity of the service and without impact for them,” says Miquel Taberner, Chief Information Technology Officer of WiZink.

«WiZink is an example of how digital banking can take a qualitative leap by betting on the cloud. Their vision and determination to modernize the heart of their technology and infrastructure demonstrate that innovation and security go hand in hand. We are proud to continue accompanying WiZink in a future in which artificial intelligence will open new opportunities to continue transforming its customers’ experience,” comments Merce Mariño, Head of Technology at AWS Iberia.
