Fujitsu has announced the start of a collaboration with OpenAI. Through this alliance, Fujitsu will integrate OpenAI’s advanced artificial intelligence technologies into its AI services portfolio with the aim of accelerating AI-based transformation in the Japanese business sector.
By combining OpenAI’s advanced technologies with Fujitsu’s extensive experience across sectors and business processes, as well as its capabilities in designing and operating systems in complex, large-scale business environments, Fujitsu will strengthen the use of artificial intelligence among Japanese companies and contribute to improving the security and reliability of social infrastructures.
Accelerate business operations
In recent years, artificial intelligence has evolved beyond being a tool aimed at improving operational efficiency to become a fundamental technology capable of defining business competitiveness and the resilience of social infrastructures.
To go beyond process optimization and comprehensively redesign decision-making and business operations, while accelerating value creation in organizations, companies increasingly need to establish frameworks that allow continuous value generation through the implementation and constant operation of AI solutions.
To respond to these needs, Fujitsu will take advantage of this collaboration with OpenAI to incorporate the value creation concepts driven by next-generation AI into its management and operations, as well as the speed of business transformation that this technology allows. The company will not only improve and accelerate its current operations, but will also profoundly transform its own business model and approach to systems integration.
As part of this initiative, Fujitsu Group employees will widely use OpenAI technologies, including ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex, to establish a new practical model in which people and AI agents collaborate in multiple areas, such as development, operations, consulting and proposal activities, and service delivery.
Furthermore, by integrating its own technologies aimed at improving the reliability of AI, Fujitsu will establish a technological foundation and operating model that guarantee security, transparency and control in the use of artificial intelligence. By bringing to its customers the knowledge, insights and practical experience gained through this collaboration with OpenAI, as well as methodologies derived from its own internal transformation, Fujitsu aims to introduce a new business model for systems integration in the post-AI era and accelerate a trusted AI-based transformation for Japanese enterprises.
Main initiatives of the collaboration
Among the main initiatives that arise from the collaboration, the following are worth highlighting:
Strengthening Fujitsu’s FDE business
Through this collaboration, Fujitsu will strengthen and expand its FDE (Forward Deployed Engineer) model, aimed at connecting artificial intelligence with value creation, taking advantage of OpenAI technologies such as ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex. Fujitsu has accumulated extensive practical experience thanks to its FDE business, which allows the agile application of AI technologies from the design of use cases to their implementation and operation, combining the sector and business knowledge acquired together with its clients.
By combining this FDE model with OpenAI’s advanced AI technologies, Fujitsu will drive the use of artificial intelligence directly linked to the generation of real value for the business, and not limited solely to technological adoption, thanks to close collaboration with customers and a deep knowledge of each industry. In particular, the company will deploy this approach among its clients in the manufacturing sector, where it has a solid client base and extensive track record in the application of the FDE model.
Cybersecurity
With the aim of strengthening cyber defense capabilities in the era of artificial intelligence, Fujitsu will work together with OpenAI to drive greater protection for businesses, critical infrastructure and essential services. The company aspires to evolve from traditional cybersecurity approaches, highly dependent on specialists, towards new generation operating models in which people and artificial intelligence collaborate to offer faster and more effective responses.
Especially in critical environments, Fujitsu will promote the adoption of AI while ensuring responsible implementation, taking into account aspects such as security and governance, in order to build a reliable and trustworthy operating model. Likewise, through its participation in government projects, public-private collaboration initiatives and advisory activities, Fujitsu will transfer the knowledge acquired to society to contribute to the global strengthening of security.
Development of specific solutions for each industry
Fujitsu will identify manufacturing, as well as the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors, as strategic areas in which it can maximize its capabilities, strengthening the deployment of AI use cases that directly contribute to business transformation and increased corporate value.
Fujitsu Group employees will widely use OpenAI technologies, including ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex
Thanks to this collaboration, Fujitsu will have access to OpenAI’s most advanced AI models and, by developing and providing solutions based on them, will offer its customers more advanced, practical artificial intelligence applications adapted to real business needs.
As highlighted by Takahito Tokita, Representative Director and CEO of Fujitsu, he points out: “We are convinced that artificial intelligence, which is evolving and advancing at great speed, will go beyond mere technological innovation to enhance the very value of human existence and unleash the full potential of society. Through the widespread implementation of AI in society and the promotion of human creativity, we aspire to build a society based on artificial intelligence that is reliable and generates trust.”
For his part, Tadao Nagasaki, president of OpenAI Japan, adds: “OpenAI aims to bring the benefits of artificial intelligence to society as a whole and contribute to building a future in which people and companies can generate greater value. To achieve this, it is essential to have partners capable of implementing advanced AI in real environments within Japanese industry and society, and expanding its use in a way that generates trust. Through this collaboration, OpenAI will support Fujitsu in advancing its own transformation and will work together to help Japanese businesses and society unlock new growth opportunities and build a more prosperous future with artificial intelligence as a catalyst.”
