As data center environments become more dynamic and complex, organizations are increasingly putting pressure on data center managers to improve availability while reducing costs and increasing efficiency. In line with these needs, Vertiv has just announced Vertiv Rack Extreme, a next-generation rack designed to respond to the growing demands of high-performance computing and artificial intelligence applications. This future-proof rack platform supports the deep and heavy IT equipment required for next-generation deployments.

Driven by increasing computing density, data center operators must house IT equipment while ensuring airflow, cabling organization, and installation flexibility. Vertiv Rack Extreme is designed to help meet these evolving demands through higher load capacities, deeper configurations, integrated cable management, and compatibility with power and thermal management systems used in data center environments.

“Vertiv™ Rack Extreme reflects our expanded capabilities in rack and cabinet designs for high-density deployments powered by AI,” said Giuseppe Leto, senior director of IT Systems at Vertiv. “The platform also benefits from Vertiv’s extensive experience in rack engineering, including solutions historically developed under the Knürr brand, to support scalable next-generation IT infrastructures.”

Advanced management and simplified expansion

Vertiv Rack Extreme has multiple size and configuration options, allowing organizations to tailor infrastructure to the specific requirements of each application. Designed for rapid deployment, the cabinet ships fully assembled and seamlessly integrates with a broad ecosystem of compatible accessories, including overhead cable management and airflow optimization solutions, facilitating simplified expansion as infrastructure needs increase.

With static and dynamic load capacities up to 2,045 kg, Vertiv Rack Extreme supports higher density deployments than traditional racks, which typically have lower load limits in motion than in a static position. By maintaining the same load capacity in both conditions, it offers up to 2 times more dynamic capacity and up to 1.3 times more static capacity compared to conventional designs, and provides operational flexibility thanks to its mobility at full rated load.

Expanded load capacities with flexible rail systems

Its fully welded construction, integrated airflow and cable management—including a high-open screen door and flexible rail systems—as well as standard features such as vertical cable bars and rPDU corner mounting bars simplify installation and ongoing management. Purpose-built transportation solutions, including shock-absorbing pallets and multi-use ramps, help protect equipment and enable smoother on-site deployment.

The platform is also designed to integrate seamlessly with Vertiv’s overall portfolio, supporting a wide range of rackmount solutions, including Vertiv uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), Vertiv rack PDUs, Vertiv thermal management solutions, as well as Vertiv CoolLoop RDHx rear door heat exchanger (rDHX) solutions and Vertiv CoolChip CDU coolant distribution units with direct-to-chip liquid cooling manifolds, as well as Vertiv Avocent series KVM and console solutions, enabling a fully integrated end-to-end infrastructure.
