AMD and Anthropic have announced a strategic partnership between both companies to deploy up to 2 gigawatts of AMD Instinct MI450 Series GPUs in rack-scale AMD Helios solutions, with the premise that the first gigawatt deployment will begin during the first half of 2027.
The pace of AI adoption is driving rapid growth in demand for training and inference capacity. Anthropic is expanding its computing infrastructure to meet strong and growing demand for Claude, and its adoption of AMD Helios at gigawatt scale represents a significant expansion of AMD’s position at the center of global AI infrastructure development.
Anthropic will deploy rack-scale AMD Helios solutions with AMD Instinct MI455X GPU (part of the AMD Instinct MI450 series), AMD EPYC “Venice” CPU, AMD Pensando™ network connectivity and ROCm™ software. Designed specifically for next-generation AI training and inference, Helios delivers the performance, efficiency, and scalability needed for the most demanding AI workloads. This implementation builds on Anthropic’s existing use of AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs.
Using Claude to optimize workloads
Additionally, AMD and Anthropic are entering into a multi-year engineering collaboration to use Claude to accelerate AMD software development. Specifically, teams will use Claude to optimize AMD Instinct GPU workloads and accelerate ROCm software development. AMD will also deploy Claude widely across its engineering and product development teams.
AMD has committed to making a strategic equity investment of up to $5 billion in Anthropic in the future.

Today’s announcement marks an important milestone in the alliance between AMD and Anthropic.
