The Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT), attached to the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service, has made public an investment of 1.47 million euros in the Spanish systems software company Kumori Systems, specialized in cloud infrastructures and virtualization.
The operation, the result of a total capital increase of 3 million euros in public-private collaboration, will allow it to scale its activity of creating platforms for the deployment and management of strategic applications in environments that require technological sovereignty, especially security, defense and critical infrastructures.
Creation of a 100% sovereign cloud
The Valencian Kumori, a spin off of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), started its activity in 2013. After a research phase, it reached technological maturity with operational solutions and real use cases in institutional (universities and research centers), industrial (private companies from various sectors) and defense environments. The company is prepared to develop cloud models that enable the creation of a 100% sovereign cloud, independent of external solutions and that guarantee security, scalability and interoperability.
The differential value of its solutions is in the use and integration of different servers without depending on a single provider and with an enormous simplification of the process, since the user only has to indicate which applications need to communicate with each other, and the platform takes care of setting up the necessary infrastructure.
The operation will allow scaling the creation of platforms for the deployment and management of strategic applications
This co-investment allows us to accelerate the development of the platform, strengthen the engineering team and expand the presence in institutional and defense clients. Kumori thus reinforces its ambition to become the European champion of sovereign cloud technologies, providing Europe with its own alternative in critical digital infrastructure and defense. Kumori’s growth will boost the creation of qualified jobs with high added value, especially in areas such as distributed systems, AI and cloud computing, and will favor the development of a more autonomous and competitive European industrial and technological ecosystem.
Deployment and management of strategic applications
The SETT carries out this operation through the Next Tech facility, with funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (Next Generation Funds of the European Union), whose objective is to promote the financing of startups and scale-ups in the technology sector. In addition, SETT manages two more facilities to enhance the technological business ecosystem: PERTE Chip, dedicated to microelectronics and semiconductors, and Spain Audiovisual Hub, which encourages the digitalization of the audiovisual sector.
