During CES 2025, AMD presented a new line of processors that may be another nail in Intel’s coffin. The new units have been designed with the needs of gamers, creators and even gaming enthusiasts in mind.
AMD Ryzen AI Max
In the laptop category, AMD presented Ryzen AI Max and Ryzen AI Max Plus processors, which previously operated under the code name “Strix Halo”. These high-performance chips are designed for the most demanding applications, such as gaming, video editing and 3D content creation. Equipped with up to 16 Zen 5 cores, 40 RDNA 3.5 compute units and 256 GB/s memory bandwidth, these processors offer record computing power in the laptop segment. With a power of 120 W, it is difficult to call them mobile, but they can create a completely new segment of efficient laptops.
Ryzen AI Max+ also features advanced artificial intelligence functions that can accelerate computational tasks related to image processing, data analysis or creating generative content. Thanks to this, the new AMD processors will prove useful not only in games, but also in professional work environments, offering performance and efficiency at an unprecedented level.
3D V-cache for notebook computers
AMD also announced processors previously known under the code name Fire Range, which are equipped with 3D V-Cache memory. This solution offers great performance, especially in games, and you can expect that the new systems will be combined with the most efficient mobile GPUs on the market to create real game consoles. The top Ryzen 9 9955HX3D processor is equipped with 16 Zen 5 cores, reaches a maximum clock speed of 5.4 GHz and has 144 MB cache. Thanks to this, it not only offers high gaming performance, but also enables smooth performance of many complex tasks at the same time, all with a TDP of 54 W.
Processors for mobile game consoles
The mobile game console segment also has a new generation of processors – AMD Z2. These advanced chips are optimized for performance and energy efficiency, which is crucial in mobile devices. Unfortunately, they are equipped with RDNA GPU units of different generations. Z2 Extreme uses the latest RDNA 3.5 architecture, the standard Z2 uses RDNA 3, and the Z2 Go system uses the older generation RDNA 2. These processors ensure smooth operation even in the most demanding titles, and also extend battery life, which is extremely important for gamers. using consoles while traveling.
Thanks to Z2 Extreme, portable game consoles gain new possibilities, such as higher graphics quality, shorter loading times and greater responsiveness. These processors also support more advanced features such as ray tracing and FSR, which should improve performance. The new generation of AMD processors is a response to the dynamically changing market needs. Thanks to solutions such as 3D V-Cache, advanced AI units and improved Zen 5 cores, AMD is increasingly marking its presence on the market, taking advantage of the weaknesses of its main rival.
