Kaspersky experts stress the importance of implementing specific security measures to browse with peace of mind.
While public Wi-Fi networks make it easy to connect on the move, it’s vital to be aware of the associated risks. Cybercriminals can create fake networks or compromise existing ones, using names similar to legitimate ones to trick users into accessing their personal information, such as passwords, banking details and emails.
“While VPNs are considered to be solutions for occasional occasions, they can also be a cybersecurity measure for everyday use. - Beware of login pages: Be wary if you are asked to log in through external platforms, such as social networks, as this may be a phishing attempt.
- Avoid sensitive transactions: Do not conduct financial transactions or access sites that require login information while connected to a public Wi-Fi network to reduce the risk of data interception.
- Using a VPN: A VPN significantly improves privacy and security on public Wi-Fi networks by encrypting data and protecting online activities from unauthorized access, without affecting Internet speed.
