For several days, the undisputed hero of the world of technology has been new, Chinese, AI project: Deepseek. The platform appeared “out of nowhere” and in one night it became an international hit. And with her popularity many questions arose, the competition felt threatened and began to ask questions.

After a few days of Opeli, i.e. the creators of Chatgpt, they return with answers that serve a number of subsequent question marks … but the most famous of them are resounded by the evidence they presented suggesting that the competition used their models for training. What’s more: she did it illegally.

OpenAI versus Deepseek and controversy related to training artificial intelligence

The key issue in the dispute between companies is the technique called “distillation”, which allows the use of results generated by larger AI models, to train smaller ones. This is a widespread practice in the development of artificial intelligence, but OpenAi claims that Deepseek has gone too far using it to create a competitive model.

The Deepseek R1 reasoning model attracted the attention of the whole world – with particular emphasis on the technology industry. Why? Popularity is one thing, but it is a consequence of efficiency. Deepseek achieves results comparable to leading American models, and at the same time creating it was a fraction of the price that came to American giants. The whole was to cost only $ 5.6 million. It may sound colossal, but with such a project it is a small amount. Competition expenses are calculated in billions of dollars. The project got so loud that it came to the first places of popularity rankings in the largest application stores day by day – also in the United States.

Serious allegations and immediate actions

In response to the allegations of Opeli, an adviser to the White House for Artificial Intelligence, he spoke almost immediately. In an interview with the editors of one of the American television stations, he commented in quite strong words, claiming that there was strong evidence that Deepseek actually chosen unlawfully for some information and OPENAI is not satisfied with that. The stock exchange also reacted immediately. On Monday, NVIDIA shares fell by as much as 17% (!), Which in practice meant a record market loss of $ 589 billion in one day. The effects are much more shocking. Because one thing is that the value of Nvidia has dropped drastically. But at the same time, many investors began to question the sense of giant investments in artificial intelligence, which they have suffered so far. Why, since Deepseek proved that comparable results can be obtained as a fraction?

Microsoft moves with the relief

As the editors of Bloomberg established, Opeli co -coat with Microsoft many months ago (it is talked about August of the year) began an investigation in the case and blocked accounts that were suspected of violating the conditions for providing services. Now they say that these accounts were related to Deepseek. However, those interested refused to disclose detailed evidence. But about the case is getting louder and louder, so it’s probably just a matter of time until we wait for more information on this matter.
