Commvault today introduced Clumio Backtrack. This new functionality allows businesses to use automation to quickly restore objects or chunks of data stored in Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) to a specific version at a specific point in time.

With this tool, cloud operations, IT, and security teams can quickly and easily recover data in the event of errors, accidents, or cyberattacks, as if they could go back in time to the last known state. Additionally, this capability is scalable.

Leveraging Amazon S3 versioning, Backtrack allows organizations to recover data sets of any size, from individual objects to entire Amazon S3 buckets that can contain billions of objects.

“With the increasing complexity of enterprise data environments, businesses need fast, scalable and secure data recovery solutions for the cloud-first world. “We are excited to offer a level of granularity and point-in-time recovery options that spans billions of objects and can help customers maximize their cloud investments,” said Woon Jung, CTO of Cloud Native at Commvault. .

Automated large-scale object recovery to Amazon S3

Backtrack’s innovation especially shines in large-scale recoveries. Today, teams can use Amazon S3’s versioning capabilities to easily recover specific objects. If data is lost, deleted, or altered in Amazon S3, users can go back in time and restore a good copy of that data. Commvault technology takes this premise to a new level.

Using a serverless architecture that allows for dynamic scaling, Backtrack can roll back billions of objects to previous versions, significantly improving the speed and ease with which large-scale data sets can be restored, even seconds after a breach is detected. problem.

There are many scenarios where the ability to quickly roll back billions of objects to a point in time is very useful: before someone accidentally deletes data, before an application starts sending incorrect or corrupt data, or before of a cybercriminal encrypting the objects and demanding a ransom.

Object storage services: essential for handling large volumes of data

The cloud artificial intelligence (AI) market is expected to grow to over $647 billion by 2030. Intensive data generation by AI and machine learning (ML) is a major catalyst for growth of data in the cloud. That’s why more organizations are turning to object storage services like Amazon S3, which can handle both the data volume and complexity of modern AI workloads.

Raphael Meyerowitz, VP of Partner Go to Market at Presidio, comments: “At Presidio, we understand the critical need for agility and resilience in today’s cloud world. As Commvault continues to push the boundaries of cyber resilience and cloud innovation, we are excited to expand our collaboration to deliver true resiliency and operational continuity to large-scale AWS environments. “Commvault’s new Clumio Backtrack enables businesses to protect their critical data with rapid recovery capabilities for complex, large-scale challenges.”

In the last year, Commvault has made significant progress in supporting cloud-first customers, with the acquisition of Clumio and the availability of Commvault Cloud offerings, including Cloud Rewind™, Air Gap Protect and Cleanroom Recovery across multiple clouds. The launch of this solution further expands Commvault’s expertise in cyber resilience, delivering enhanced recovery capabilities for businesses around the world.

Availability and prices

Commvault will offer early access to Clumio Backtrack in December, with global general availability expected in early 2025.
