The Sierra Calderona is one of the areas with the greatest ecological wealth in the Valencian Community, but its Mediterranean climate, characterized by dry and hot summers, makes it a highly vulnerable area to fires. To this is added the dispersion of housing in rural areas, which makes it essential to have advanced tools for the protection of the environment and the safety of the inhabitants.
To deal with these challenges, the Olocau City Council has deployed Bseed Watch, an IoT system that allows to collect key data on temperature, humidity, gase concentration and other environmental parameters that influence the propagation of fire. Thanks to these data, experts can calculate indexes such as the Fire Weather Index (FWI) and the Initial Spread Index (ISI), which help foresee the risk of fire several days in advance.
In the last 2024 fire campaign, the system demonstrated its effectiveness by early detecting several fires, which allowed emergency services to intervene quickly and minimize damage. “We remain committed to the protection of our natural environment and, for this, we bet on an extraordinary network of devices that helps us protect ourselves from fire,” said Antonio Ropero, mayor of Olocau.
The Municipality of Olocau (Valencia) reinforces the prevention of forest fires with Unabiz and Pyro IoT technology
Since its implementation, early detection technology has allowed:
- Foresee the risk of fires up to 10 days in advance.
- Detect Focos in real time through sensors, cameras and satellites.
- Monitor constantly environmental conditions.
- Reduce The response times of emergency equipment.
Unabiz’s 0G network, a key pillar in fire detection
The BSEED Watch’s communication infrastructure is based on the Sigfox 0G network, driven by Unabiz. This technology allows real -time data transmission even in areas with little connectivity, which makes it an ideal solution for forest surveillance on difficult access.
The sensors connected to this network have extremely low energy consumption, which allows them to operate for several years without the need for battery replacement or investments in expensive infrastructure. In addition, the use of low power frequencies guarantees wide coverage in remote areas, facilitating permanent monitoring of the environment.
With this initiative, Olocau is positioned as a reference in fire prevention through IoT technology, demonstrating that innovation can be a key ally in the conservation of natural spaces and the safety of communities at risk.
