There is no Formula 1 competition this weekend, so the social media of the queen of motor sports is dominated by memories. One of them concerns Robert Kubica, who in 2010 found… an iPhone in his car.
Kubica complains about the iPhone in the cockpit
The times when Robert Kubica played an important role in the competition in Formula 1 are gone forever. However, this does not mean that Formula 1 has forgotten about him. From time to time there are films that remind us how good a driver he was. It is enough to mention the famous rivalry in the rainy race on the Fuji track with Felippe Massa or his flawless driving in Monaco. However, Kubica was also the hero of many funny situations, and one of them was mentioned yesterday. During third practice for the 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix, a driver complained to his engineer about having an iPhone in the cockpit.
One of the mechanics probably dropped the phone there by accident. Kubica, even though it was only a training session, did not want to pit and asked if he could just throw him on the track. However, the race engineer told him to go to the garage and hand over the phone to the mechanics. Robert was not happy about this, he just said that he would drive up and continue his testing program before qualifying, which was to take place a few hours later. The Renault car in 2010 was not the most competitive, which is why Kubica ultimately took 9th place in the qualifications. In the race he did even worse, after a spin in the first corner he had to fight his way through the entire field and ultimately finished just outside the ten points, in 11th place.
Unfortunately, we never fully learned the history of the iPhone, so we don’t know who it belonged to or what model it was, but considering that it was 2010, there wasn’t much to choose from. At the time, the latest Apple phone model available was the iPhone 3GS. By the way, I wonder if it was an Android phone, would Kubica also recognize the model correctly? Or maybe he would even be allowed to throw it on the side of the road? 😉
