Acronis updates in 2024

The company has launched important new features this year, highlighting its Extended Detection and Response (XDR)which expands its capabilities beyond endpoint protection. Additionally, they announced a 90% growth in protected workloads and an 18% increase in the number of partners.

Another important milestone was the acquisition of a majority stake in Acronis by EQT, with the aim of accelerating the expansion of the platform. The expansion of its data centers was also highlighted, with new facilities in Mexico, Brazil and Berlin, promoting the local compliance and integrated cyber protection strategy.

Global and EMEA growth

Perspective of MSPs towards 2030

Significant growth in the industry is projected by 2030, with a 75% increase in the server market, a 119% increase in endpoints, and a 48% growth in data centers. Factors such as digital transformation, the use of artificial intelligence (AI), and automation will drive these changes, creating a more complex environment with a larger attack surface for cyber threats.

As the number of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) using MSPs increases, it is estimated that the cost of cyber attacks for these companies will reach $8.4 trillion.

Threat Investigation Unit

Kevin Reed, CISO at Acronis, explained how the company addresses security challenges, focusing on vulnerability research, threat intelligence and forensics. The company provides daily information on specific vulnerabilities and threats to MSPs, improving their clients’ ability to respond to cyberattacks. Reed highlighted the importance of patching, configuration management, malware detection and backups as critical measures to combat modern threats.

Cyber threats in EMEA and the NIS2 directive

Denis Cassinerio highlighted the evolution of cyber threats in Europe: While ransomware tends to stabilize, detections of malware and malicious URLs have increased considerably, with Italy and Spain experiencing the largest increases in malware detections. Meanwhile, in Germany, ransomware threats persist, while Bulgaria has seen a sharp increase in attacks based on malicious URLs.

Cassinerio also addressed the NIS2 Directive, which establishes cybersecurity risk management measures for essential service providers in the EU. This regulation will come into force in 2024 and will focus on security incidents, network protection, and supply chain risk management. In this way, the directive highlights the need to adopt innovative technologies, such as AI, to improve the prevention of cyber attacks.

FOMO Survey Results

For her part, Alona Geckler presented the results of a survey that explores the challenges women face in cybersecurity. 71% of respondents mentioned that they work longer hours to advance in their careers, and 70% believe that men are promoted faster than women.

The survey also reveals that 84% of women in the technology sector think that the inclusion of more women in leadership roles would be beneficial for technology organizations. Additionally, mentoring, pay equity, and career development opportunities were noted to be crucial to empowering women in this industry.
