According to a study by Juniper Research, the global ESIM market is expected to reach a business volume of 16.3 billion dollars in 2027, compared to the 4.7 billion dollars generated in 2023. This growth will be driven by the growing adoption of ESIM in smartphones, IoT devices and applications in the automotive sector. Therefore, the main smartphones manufacturers have already migrated to devices exclusively with ESIM in several markets.

In this context, and within the framework of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, Giesecke+Devrient has announced a collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to develop advanced ESIM technologies in the cloud, with the aim of creating new business models that accelerate the adoption of this technology in various industries.

G+D, which launched the first ESIM in 2012 and has enabled more than 500 million downloads to date, remains at the forefront of this technology both in innovation and implementation. The company has played a key role in the creation and evolution of the ESIM specifications of the GSMA, such as SGP.22 (for consumers), SGP.32 (for IoT) and the next SGP.41/42 (for provision of factory profiles).

“As ESIM adoption accelerates on consumption and IoT devices, safe and reliable cloud services are fundamental to climbing this technology and enabling new connectivity solutions. AWS and G+D are helping customers transform their mobile connectivity operations at the same time that they maintain the highest safety and performance standards, ”says Yasser Alsay, Vice President of IoT in AWS.

Collaboration with AWS

G+D will use Global AWS cloud infrastructure to improve ESIM deployment capabilities and make it more efficient and accessible for mobile network operators, device manufacturers and business clients. The G+D platform takes advantage of AWS cloud capabilities to offer comprehensive ESIM solutions that meet the demanding current business requirements.

The SGP.32 solution, which includes the G+D IoT suite, is built on AWS, which guarantees proven scalability and elasticity. In addition, AWS’s global infrastructure also ensures that the Airon360 Entitlement service of G+D maintains constant performance for its customers worldwide.

ESIM technology future

With this collaboration, G+D and AWS seek not only to solve current challenges, but also anticipate future challenges in the technological sector. Together they will focus on the development of solutions that improve operational efficiency and sustainability, as well as the formation of local talent to face the challenges of digitalization.

With this alliance, both entities expect to create a positive and lasting impact on society, promoting innovation and technological development in the field of ESIM and beyond.
