To accelerate the development of applications and solutions, as well as increase operational agility by expanding the use of AI, the company Kyndryl has announced new AI-based services that combine its extensive mainframe expertise with agentic AI and hybrid computing capabilities.

The new mainframe services can be integrated with the capabilities of Kyndryl’s agentic AI framework to enable seamless coordination between agents and workflows.

Customers will benefit from the following aspects:

• Smarter decision making and faster, more proactive problem solving.

• Greater reliability and more agile compliance with the software life cycle.

• Access to specialized knowledge and artificial intelligence, while taking advantage of the organization’s internal knowledge.

• Faster response to emerging opportunities and threats, reducing risk and enabling more resilient and modern IT environments.

Kyndryl’s AI-based mainframe services are integrated into the Kyndryl Bridge platform to deliver intelligent automation, predictive analytics, and insights into mainframe infrastructure and applications.

To further drive mainframe delivery transformation for customers, Kyndryl is deploying IBM watsonx Assistant for Z and other AI ecosystem platforms that enable intelligent automation, orchestration and lifecycle management.

Kyndryl’s approach also leverages the company’s intellectual property and extensive experience in mainframe transformation, along with complementary technologies from cloud hyperscalers and other global partners, to drive innovation for customers.

Improved application performance

With decades of experience in mainframe services and new solution designs that bring AI inference closer to data hosted on the mainframe, Kyndryl can help customers accelerate and expand their AI processing capabilities in such environments. In this way, latency is reduced and performance is improved in applications such as real-time fraud detection, insurance claim processing or analysis of end-customer purchasing patterns, also improving the overall user experience.

“In Spain, these capabilities are already being implemented in clients in the banking sector who trust Kyndryl to deploy agentic AI functions, taking advantage of our decades of experience in mainframe services, as well as new solutions that allow AI and the data contained in the mainframe to interact,” comments Ignacio Cea, vice president of Core Enterprise & ZCloud Practice at Kyndryl for Spain and Portugal.

Increased use of AI on mainframes

According to Kyndryl’s State of Mainframe Modernization 2025 study, 88% of respondents have implemented or plan to implement AI, including agentic and generative AI, in their mainframe environment. They claim that the use of AI on mainframes will increase business agility (37%), enable faster, more replicable and less prone to human error operational actions (32%), and generate cost savings (31%). However, 70% have difficulty finding versatile talent within their organization.

The study shows that AI is expected to generate cost savings of $12.7 billion and revenue growth of $19.5 billion over the next three years, with the main use cases being improved performance and resource allocation, fraud detection, security, and threat assessment or detection.
