The decision to ban the sale of DJI drones, which will soon come into force in the United States, has caused considerable confusion among users of drones and other equipment from this manufacturer. In this material, we briefly explain whether users from Poland may have reasons to worry.

US-China trade war: DJI is another victim

The moment when the sale of DJI drones (and other drones from Chinese manufacturers) will be severely limited is approaching. Of course, this is not good news, because these devices enjoy a very high reputation. There is a lot of different information on this subject on the Internet, often misleading. The confusion was intensified by the information that the Polish army planned to buy 4,800 drones from Chinese manufacturers (DJI, Autel). What does the Trump administration’s decision actually change and what happened?

Let’s start with what’s most important. For users of DJI equipment who live in Poland and plan to use drones in our country, nothing changes. Regardless of whether DJI drones can be sold in the United States or not, they remain constantly available in Poland. Even though Poland cooperates with the USA on many levels, this prohibition does not apply to us in any way.

So who will suffer? US customers will no longer be able to purchase drones from Chinese manufacturers starting this month. It is impossible not to notice that this is another installment of the trade war between the US and China. The official reason for introducing the sales ban was that drones from China could be used to spy on its biggest rival.

You don’t live in or are going to the US? You don’t have to worry about anything

The regulations coming into force mean that new drones from DJI and other manufacturers from China cannot be sold in the United States. What about the drones that have already gone on sale and those that have already found their buyers? At the moment, absolutely nothing. They can be used at any time under the existing rules, with respect for applicable law regarding, among others, flight ban etc. Similarly, if we want to bring our drone to the USA to record there – at the moment this is absolutely possible.
