It’s been 20 years already. That’s how long MSI laptops have been available on the market – and the company celebrated it yesterday in Wrocław.
MSI celebrates 20 years of laptops in Wrocław
On June 13, a special event took place at the Wrocław Film Studio next to the Centennial Hall to celebrate 20 years of MSI laptops. The Taiwanese company prepared a laptop museum for the occasion, where in 7 different locations we could learn about the history of the company’s laptops, which have been with us for two decades, and experience the latest technological innovations – among others, laptops with 14th generation processors and NVIDIA RTX 40 graphics cards, slim and mobile ultrabooks with an attractive design, the MSI Claw handheld and one of the most expensive laptops available on the Polish market, which costs over PLN 25,000.
7 unique points during the event
The 20th anniversary of laptops at the Feature Film Studio was divided into 7 different zones. The whole trip started with a cinema (with a 100 square meter screen), where there was a short introduction, a story about the company and a preview of what we will see in the next places. The second stop was the history of laptops, where on different stands we could see how MSI computers have developed over the years.
In addition to the obvious computers, you could see a backpack-shaped computer that looked like a Transformer element, huge laptops with built-in mechanical keyboards, and a small, white notebook that was supposed to challenge Apple at one point. In addition to the different designs (from minimalist style, through aggressive, red accents on the casing, to a computer painted in the style of World of Tanks), you could see the history of the company’s logo, as well as changing trends in general – the most surprising thing to me was how small touchpads used to be.
The next room took us to the present, where we could see the company’s latest offerings. RGB backlighting, cooperation with Mercedes AMG, slim laptops, but also powerful gaming beasts for over 20 thousand zlotys – in short, it was the MSI showroom. The company wanted to show where it is now with such an exhibition – so there were a lot of lights and a lot of top components.
After that, it was time for another review of the company’s development, this time in terms of the guts. Point number 4 focused on the insides of the technology and how it has changed over the past 20 years. A real treat for those who like to dig into computers and get to know the hardware from the inside. For those who prefer to learn the power of the hardware without going into details, the next room, the Laptop Gaming Arena, worked well, where you could test the latest MSI laptops with games like Cyberpunk and DOOM. The quality of the gameplay was beyond reproach, but the culture of the gaming laptops… well, this room was also perfect for anyone who has a problem with insomnia, because it was solid white noise from many different sources.
At the very end, you could test your skills on the MSI Claw, the latest popular handheld on the market, which had some problems at the start. I spent far too little time with this device during the event to take any position on the matter, but it was good to finally get my hands on this “console”. And Crash Bandicoot was very enjoyable to play. The cherry on the cake was a stop dedicated to the creative series of MSI laptops for digital creators, which differed from gaming proposals mainly in ergonomics or the fact that they were convertible laptops with a touch screen and stylus support.
The whole event was surprisingly interesting, and today fans of the brand could visit it and the doors were open to everyone. Although celebrating the 20th anniversary of laptops in Wrocław seemed like a strange idea to me, it turned out to be a very good idea in the end.
