Data protection and security has become, over the years, a great challenge for organizations of all sizes. The increase in demand for the cloud and the growing digitalization of companies, administrations and organizations highlight the importance of security in the cloud.

With a view to strengthening its data security strategy, OVHcloud has announced the acquisition of Seald, a French company specialized in end-to-end encryption technologies. This is an important step forward in OVHcloud’s strategy and to offer greater data security, whose objective is to offer a trusted cloud that combines security and regulatory compliance at the service of the most critical use cases. With Seald, OVHcloud integrates cutting-edge technology that allows data to be protected through a zero-knowledge model.

Through this data security model, content is encrypted before being sent and can only be decrypted by end users on their devices. Neither the hosting provider, nor the publisher, nor the system administrator can access this information.

Secure comprehensive cloud

It is worth remembering that OVHcloud currently manages more than 500,000 servers through its 46 data centers located on 4 continents, with an average of 1.6 million clients. For more than 20 years, it has carried out an integrated model that guarantees complete control of its value chain, from the design and construction of servers and data centers, to the orchestration of its fiber optic network.

Cloud security is equivalent to the protection and security of the data, applications and infrastructure that are part of the cloud environment. In order to offer a secure cloud, providers must ensure that all elements of the value chain have the necessary security measures. OVHcloud offers comprehensive cloud protection: from the physical perimeter security surrounding your data centers, to access control systems, including API interfaces and software patches.

The company has a dedicated CSIRT team, made up of security experts who work closely with the rest of the OVHcloud teams. Its main objective is to detect possible threats, manage incidents and carry out forensic investigations.

The CSIRT team is able to anticipate possible threats and vulnerabilities by implementing a series of security strategies: real-time monitoring, development of mitigation and response techniques, early warning systems, and detection and identification of malicious activities.

Encryption technology

The SDK developed by Seald has the CSPN security certification granted by ANSSI, the French Cybersecurity Agency. Enables rapid integration of end-to-end encryption into web and mobile applications, without requiring advanced encryption knowledge. The solutions allow access rights management, encryption key rotation, multiple device management, data security, as well as secure recovery of private keys.

OVHcloud reinforces the security of customer data

Thanks to this acquisition, OVHcloud can natively integrate end-to-end encryption into its product portfolio, complementing existing security proposals (Secret Manager, KMS, HSM) to offer a complete data protection and security chain, from the backend to the user’s terminal.

This acquisition will allow organizations to: design a differentiating technological offering to respond to highly sensitive use cases, as well as accelerate the development of ultra-secure solutions aimed at companies and public organizations.
