The 2024 Pokemon World Championships are starting this weekend. The organizers have prepared plenty of attractions.

Yesterday, the closing ceremony of this year’s Olympic Games took place, topped off with performances by Snoop Dogg, Billie Eilish, and… Tom Cruise jumping from the roof of the stadium. Traditional athletes are returning home, while e-sportsmen and fans of the cult anime are preparing for the tournament in virtual space. This Friday, the great Pokémon World Championships begin, and the eyes of the community centered around the cute creatures will be directed to Hawaii.

Pokémon World Championships 2024 – What is the event all about?

The Pokémon World Championships may sound funny to some, but it’s an event that attracts tens of thousands of people every year, so it can’t be underestimated. The event itself is already 20 years old and initially revolved around the famous trading cards and games based on them, but today it’s a multi-dimensional event that unites not only fans of the cards, but also all products of popular culture related to Pokémon.

This year’s edition is taking place in Honolulu, Hawaii, and will be based on several pillars: the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, Pokémon GO and Pokémon UNITE, and the competition for the title of World Champion. All of this will also take place in an atmosphere perfect for fans of the universe – there will be cosplays, contests, and photos with Pokémon, and those who cannot participate in the event live will be able to follow the broadcast online.

The Pokémon World Championships feature the best Pokémon players from around the world. Players will compete for prizes, the title of Pokémon World Champion, and return invitations to the World Championships next year

Pokémon World Championships 2024 – Tournament Schedule and Viewer Attractions

The 2024 Pokémon World Championships will be fully broadcast on Twitch and YouTube, with the event and opening ceremony set to begin at 9:00 p.m. this Friday. All other competitions will be broadcast at 9:45 p.m. sharp, with matches continuing through Sunday, when the final battles will begin at 9:00 p.m. on August 18.

Watching the streams for esports excitement is one thing, but attending them online is also a chance to win a variety of digital prizes. You can win codes to unlock rare Pokémon cards in the Pokémon Trading Card Game Live and a Pokémon from the team that won the Pokémon VGC World Championships in 2023. There are also various prizes for Pokémon GO and Pokémon UNITE fans – you can find details about them here.

The commentators will include such personalities as FrostedCaribou, KSabelhaus, Tablemon, ChipRichey, and many others associated with the Pokémon world. However, if you prefer to listen to theme music instead of their voices, the organizers have a little surprise for you. For this year’s championship, a special compilation has been prepared on Spotify, containing both well-known pop hits and local, Hawaiian sounds from Honolulu. You can find the Pokémon playlist here.
