The debate on the adoption of the generative AI in the company is no longer a matter of the future, but of the present. The latest Enterprise Cloud Index (ECI) report prepared by Nutanix in its specific edition for Spain reveals that Spanish organizations have taken a more determined step than the global average in the implementation of strategies linked to this technology. According to the data, 88% of the companies in the country already have an ongoing plan, compared to 85% of the other markets analyzed.
This advance confirms that artificial intelligence has become a key piece in the technological and strategic decisions of organizations, although it also puts complex challenges that go beyond infrastructure investment.
A strategy on the way, but with diverse objectives
The seventh edition of the ECI 2025 report highlights that Spanish companies not only bet on Genai, but do so for very diverse purposes. For some organizations, the value is in the innovation and development of new products, while others seek to automate processes and increase productivity.
“This edition shows the new challenges facing Spanish companies and organizations to adopt generative artificial intelligence. Although most have already launched a Genai strategy, the implementation objectives vary significantly,” says Jorge Vázquez, general director of Nutanix Iberia.

In contrast, only 10% of companies admit to still in an initial phase, which reflects a panorama in which resistance to this technology is minority.
CHALLENGES: Lack of training and security need
Despite progress, the study also points out that obstacles are still important. The first of these is the lack of knowledge and training. Companies recognize that designing and deploying Genai environments from scratch is complex without specialized professionals. The talent gap thus becomes a bottleneck for many organizations.
The second great challenge has to do with technology and, specifically, with security. 93% of respondents in Spain agree that Genai has changed the priorities of its companies, placing the privacy of data at the top of the agenda. In this sense, 53% ensure that prioritizing applications focused on cybersecurity, fraud detection and loss prevention, while 45% emphasizes customer support solutions, such as smart chatbots.
Despite these efforts, 92% admit that they could still do more to guarantee the safety of Genai’s models and applications, especially when it comes to handling large language models (LLM) and sensitive data.
CONTAINING: The new technological standard
The report also reflects a clear trend in infrastructure: containing applications. 99% of Spanish companies say that this process has already started, and 92% recognize that their organization benefits from the native cloud containers. This model not only optimizes the development and deployment of applications, but is emerging as the safest route to manage data in hybrid and multicloud environments.
Containing it, in short, is being consolidated as the de facto standard in business infrastructure, while becoming a direct enabling of the Genai.
An optimistic vision of investment return
One of the most revealing points in the study has to do with costs. Faced with the perception that Genai implies a high expense, Spanish companies show confidence in their profitability. Most believe that their projects will generate medical and long -term benefits, while only 19% foresee losses in the next three years.
This optimistic perspective suggests that Genai is not perceived as a passing fad, but as a strategic investment aimed at consolidating competitive advantages.
