Stratesys, in collaboration with SAP, held the Intelligent Public Transportation conference in its offices in Madrid, a meeting that brought together national and international professionals to address the main challenges of the transportation and mobility sector: operational efficiency, economic sustainability, process integration, data management and Artificial Intelligence.

The day included representatives from EMT Madrid, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) and Linha Uni – Line 6 of the São Paulo metro, along with specialists from SAP and Stratesys, to share experiences and discuss the transformation of the sector.

Needs for a sector in transformation

The meeting was inaugurated by Gonzalo Moreu, Managing Partner responsible for Public Sector and Mobility at Stratesys, who reviewed almost 30 years of evolution of public transport.

In this period, mobility, regulation, traveler expectations and technology have changed. But essential challenges remain: guarantee safe, reliable and efficient transport, meet growing demand and ensure the quality and economic sustainability of the service.

This reflection connects with We Stay, Stratesys’ new philosophy, which understands permanence as the commitment to evolve and adapt while continuing to accompany its clients, both when incorporating new technologies and transforming processes and when facing difficulties.

The day was led by Valentín Rábago, Associate Director of Urban Mobility at Stratesys, who presented the sessions and moderated the closing sector conversation.

Real experiences and new transport opportunities

The sessions addressed the evolution of public transport from a strategic, operational and technological perspective, combining experiences and new digital capabilities.

The new stage facing public transport was analyzed, with references to several European cities, marked by citizen expectations, the improvement of efficiency and service and, especially, the economic balance necessary for its sustainability.

The area of operations, maintenance and the supply chain had special prominence. Linha Uni’s experience, in a city as complex as São Paulo, showed the integration of planning, maintenance and supply to improve coordination and operational efficiency.

The evolution of digital maintenance towards intelligent maintenance models was also analyzed, based on TMB’s experience, highlighting its importance for the availability and reliability of the service and its connection with the economic, logistical and operational areas.

The potential of data and AI agents

The day also explored the potential of data, the comprehensive vision of the passenger and Artificial Intelligence agents. The integration of information, processes and automation offers new opportunities for efficiency and improved user experience. Xavi Aguado, Manager specializing in data analytics, showed how dashboards such as Urban Mobility 360º provide a holistic vision and facilitate predictive decision making.

Raquel Martínez and Alicia Gutiérrez Alonso, from SAP, addressed the modernization of the revenue cycle by integrating billing and clearing to improve traceability and economic management of mobility.

Operators put data, people and interoperability at the center of transformation. That is why the day concluded with a sectoral conversation table, moderated by Valentín Rábago and with the participation of Carlos Acha, director of Technology and Innovation at EMT Madrid; Mari Cruz Briongos, SAP Maintenance Technician at TMB; and Caique Augusto, Coordinator of Planning and Maintenance Control of Linha Uni – Line 6 of the São Paulo metro.

The debate highlighted the vocation of public service and the need to make it compatible with financial balance, efficiency and improving the traveler experience.

Participants stressed the importance of quality data and appropriate governance, robust processes and systems capable of taking advantage of new technologies. They also highlighted the role of people and the need for real and open interoperability between systems and areas of each organization.

Regarding the challenges of incorporating AI, they pointed out three priorities: strengthening data governance (TMB), keeping the user at the center of the transformation (EMT Madrid) and always taking advantage of the available technology (Linha Uni).

Technology and collaboration in transportation

The meeting showed that transforming public transportation requires more than just new technology: business knowledge, integrated processes, reliable data, interoperability, organizational evolution and sustainability.

With this initiative, Stratesys reaffirms its commitment to accompanying the sector in the long term, promoting collaboration and applying innovation to the real challenges of mobility.
