Companies in Spain will experience an increase in sustainability and forty points in hybrid multicloud deployments, compared to the sixteen point average in the EMEA region and twenty points worldwide. This is highlighted by Nutanix in its global Enterprise Cloud Index (ECI) report.

According to the study, the use of hybrid multicloud models in companies in the country is expected to increase from the current 10% to 50% within one to three years. This growth forecast is the highest on record, exceeding the average of 30% in the EMEA region (currently at 14%) and 35% globally (currently at 15%).

“This sixth edition of our ECI 2024 study highlights the new challenges that Spanish companies and organizations face in modernizing their infrastructures and adapting them to the needs generated by AI, security and sustainability. In this sense, we see that hybrid multicloud continues to emerge as the preferred infrastructure model due to its flexibility,” says Jorge Vázquez, general manager of Nutanix Iberia.

Sustainability and cybersecurity in Spain

A strong focus on sustainability is one of the aspects that distinguishes Spanish companies. The study reveals that 96% of organisations in Spain consider sustainability a priority, 10 percentage points higher than the EMEA average (86%). In addition, 88% of respondents in Spain say they are increasing their investments in more sustainable technologies, compared to 77% globally and 73% in the EMEA region.

Some of the report’s key findings include:

  • Unlike other regions, in Spain the main concern when choosing technological infrastructure is protection against ransomware and malware, with 56% of them taking priority. This is followed by the need for greater flexibility in managing cloud and local environments (46%), while sustainability comes in third place (40%). As for specific sustainability initiatives, companies in Spain have focused their efforts on promoting remote working to reduce travel and emissions, as well as identifying new areas where waste can be reduced.
  • Cost is an influential variable in the decision-making of Spanish companies. 90% agree that migrating workloads to another cloud can be costly and time-consuming. Also, 30% consider managing cloud-related costs a “significant challenge” due to current infrastructure.
  • In terms of security, more than 90% of companies in Spain have experienced some form of ransomware attack in the last three years, which has prompted 94% of them to plan greater investments in cybersecurity by 2024.
  • Artificial intelligence is also gaining ground. 84% of Spanish organizations plan to increase their investment in this area in the next 12 months, as 86% face difficulties in running AI applications due to their IT infrastructure.
  • Another major challenge is application and data traffic, a concern noted by 92% of companies. Even so, 100% of companies in Spain moved one or more applications to another computing environment in the last year.

This study was conducted by Vanson Bourne for the sixth consecutive year at the request of Nutanix. The survey, conducted in December 2023, included 1,500 IT and DevOps/Platform Engineering decision makers globally, spanning a variety of industries and enterprises of varying sizes across the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA), and Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ).
