The first foldable drone will soon hit store shelves. DJI Flip is supposed to stand out with some interesting features.
Although foldable smartphones are still only an expensive technological curiosity for many users, the numbers leave no doubt – these unusual devices were quite well received on the market, achieving sales of 15.9 million units in 2023. Now this foldable trend is breaking new ground, and more specifically, it is knocking on the door of the small drone segment. DJI – one of the largest manufacturers of this type of devices in the world – will soon release a new, foldable drone. We know more and more about the DJI Flip model.
A drone like from a sci-fi movie
At the end of the holidays, DJI surprised users with the Neo model, the smallest and lightest drone in its current offer (review coming soon on Antyweb), and now it goes a step further, thanks to the intriguing Flip. The first details began to appear already during the Christmas period, thanks to Igor Bogdanov, who published pre-release leaks on X, which often turn out to be true. We learned, among other things, that the drone will weigh only 249 grams, which means that the device will be subject to a minimum number of legal restrictions and will not require registration.
The battery in DJI Flip will allow it to stay in the air for up to 31 minutes, and the built-in camera with a 1/1.3-inch CMOS matrix will record video in 4K and 60 frames per second (with HDR support). Artificial intelligence will help in smoothly tracking objects.
The most interesting thing, however, is the appearance of the drone itself. Leaks reveal that it will feature a foldable structure – it is the first such device that allows the folding of propellers protected by a plastic casing to protect against mechanical damage. Thanks to this solution, the drone not only looks like a vehicle straight out of Star Wars, but also appears to be easy to transport.
The first such FPV drone
After the holidays, new information about DJI Flip appeared. The registration numbers of the drone reveal that it will belong to the FPV category, which means that it will enable video transmission from a first-person perspective after using compatible goggles. DJI Flip will also use Cellular Dongle 2, a device that allows you to connect the drone to a cellular network, which improves the range and stability of data transmission.
Additionally, we also learned that the drone will be released with an optional Fly More Combo kit with batteries, propellers and a travel case. There will also be a special hub on sale, capable of charging two batteries in 45 minutes with a power of 65 W. What about the price? Of course, this is not confirmed yet, but according to leaks, the drone is to be valued at approximately EUR 439, i.e. less than PLN 1,900.
